My employer is absolutely in love with the 330 series.

The actual reasons? No clue.
Hawaiian is as well. I talked to a fleet guy on one of my non-revs home and he said in just about every aspect it beats the 767.

777 makes money for the company but it's mostly from cargo. The 330 makes way more revenue than any other aircraft in the fleet. Its pretty much a 50/50 spread. I can keep a 777 out of serve for a week before hearing a peep from HQ. You have a 330 out of service longer then 12 hours, you'll have at unlimited stream of emails from HQ and multiple inquisitions on the conference calls asking why it's not back in service!

Interesting. Are the economics that much better or is it just well matched to the theater?

It's a very versatile airframe that fits the company's perimeters for optimum revenue for the international market. The 777 is basically running cargo heavy routes.
