I actually took a few minutes to make a spreadsheet with the specific FAR requirement quoted next to all the requirements and I give it to all my students when I start with them. I put it in writing with them and I both signing it that this is the Minimum requirement and they understand that they may need more than that. It also includes expectations and limitations that they can expect from me, and what I will expect from them as a student. They understand that I train to proficiency, not to minimum requirements. They understand that I make it my job to give them quality training and that they will not be endorsed for a checkride until I am confident they are ready.
Its sort of a contract between us so there is no ambiguity with what is going on. I have not had one complaint about it yet.
