Trip to Cedar Key Florida

Myself, a friend, and his girlfriend flew down to Cedar Key yesterday from KTOI. It was an absolute blast. It was a little bumpy until about Tallahassee, but once we had flown over Tallahassee it was extremely smooth all of the way down the coast. Cedar Key is definitely a very interesting little place. I would highly suggest people to fly in there and see the area. I plan on going down there again sometimes in the future and actually staying a few days. We only stayed about 3 hours, so we drove around town a little while on the golf cart that we rented and ate lunch at Steamer's clam bar. I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in the food. I got the grouper, crab cake, and fries. The crab cake was decent, but the grouper (my favorite fish) was so unpleasant that I didn't even eat all of it. Our waitress was very nice, and the restaurant is out over the water, so it does have a very nice atmosphere.

All of these pictures were taken with my iPhone 5, so they aren't the best quality in the world. I think they turned out pretty decent though.

Very nice!

I have to say I didn`t like the food that much either, next time stop in KAAF for food...

whats the funk airport with 4 short parallels?

That is one of the MANY staging fields for Fort Rucker down here in Alabama. They just use them for training operations. Fort Rucker is the primary training base for all Army Aviators. There is probably more than 10 of these small 4 and 5 runway fields like this scattered around South Alabama.

Head to KVNC next time, Sharky's will pick you up at the field (or walk), and the food is pretty good.

Last time I was there, I didn`t know they had a new FBO, I taxied and parked in front of the old one walked up to the building....hmm where is the FBO gone? I had to drive in a 1970s taxi with this lady that stored half of her house in it...it was summer so walking was not an option...lol, we asked for an airport drop off at Sharky`s, they told us they don`t do it. Food was awesome and my student paid for it what can I ask more?

I have good memories of that trip the weather was pretty bad on the way back and we had to scud run along the beach all the way down to Marco then cross part of the everglades, we got pretty low on fuel, and decided to stop in KPHK, X-wind was nuts and when we finally made it we walk up to the trailer, jumped over the sleeping dog in the middle of what they call an FBO just to be told they were out of fuel.

Yeah, the FBO won't drop you off, you need to call Sharky's and they will pick you up. It isn't a bad walk though, even in the summer

Great pictures! We take 5 or so planes down to VNC every winter break with a group of students because the weather in Michigan blows that time of year. Sharky's is my primary diet during that week since we stay at a 'lovely' place right next to VNC and it's within walking distance.

The one time we went to Sharky's it was closed for an employee party. Ate at some restaurant on the field that was actually really good too.

I always wondered why there aren`t many schools doing that...I understand that not everybody is a full time student but it seems a great idea to keep the hours count up in the winter month.

Pretty much allows us to keep all the CFIs for the winter... we'd probably have to lay people off in the winter otherwise. Also, it's a nice 50hr boost for us instructors too!
