had my first engine fire today!

Just heard from my instructor, and they are just gonna pay out of pocket to replace some wiring and a gasket that was damaged, the plane is already back on line and I guess everything got smoothed out. But I will certainly be more conscience of the fuel pump.

My POH for a Piper PA28-140 recommends the same procedure of pumping the throttle before starting the engine. I did it a few times, before a CFI noticed and explained how that is a recipe for fire. I don't do it anymore, but it's in the plane manual...
