When I interviewed at WN a few yrs back....the first thing they asked...AND I mean ..THE FIRST THING...was "So, Who do you know at WN?" and Do you know anyone in dispatch?.......so there's that...

in all fairness that could be a trick question, every employer has that hire they regret.

I disagree w/ those who get upset about connections making a difference. Anyone can sound good on paper. To a manager, the opinion of an employee that you know and trust regarding another persons work ethic/fit for a job does and should manner.

Which is *I don't have the education to emote without using a curse word*. Someone that knows someone shouldn't matter. Hire the best qualified person. I am legacy at major and they won't give me the time of day.

Just so you understand, an internal recommendation from an existing employee doesn’t mean that they will get hired. However, it can get someone a shot to try, whether it’s a phone interview or an invite to test or interview face to face, depending on the airline’s hiring process. At that point, it’s on them to sell themselves as to why they are the best candidate. Internal recommendations go a long way from a respected employee. Embrace that fact and start building bridges - don’t ever burn them. This industry is way too small.

Doesn't just apply to internal recommendations either, the industry being small is a pro and a con. It can be a con with what you say...you burn your bridges and you can be pretty screwed. But the pro with it being a small industry is that you can sometimes get a (or the) job you are working to.

I was working for a local domestic 121 operator in flight ops but in a non-dispatch position. The supervisor at the supplemental carrier down the road from us e-mailed my manager (who also taught the local dispatch course) and asked if he had any recently graduated students he would recommend. He mentioned a few but also put my name out there since he knew I was trying to get in a dispatch position but he didn't have any openings. Long story short, I got an interview at the supplemental carrier and here I've been since...so don't burn your bridges like @womanpilot73 said.

Looks like it's closed. What would you say, probably the week of the 9th before we hear anything?

Looking at last year’s posting, it looks like it was about 2 weeks from initial posting to invites going out. So possibly next week at the earliest, but with it being a holiday week, I wouldn’t expect to hear anything until the following week. So yeah, probably the 9th.

The internal posting closes on Friday. So probably nothing until after the 4th.

Word I got from the street is 20 peeps.

Not sure the reason, just know it's been delayed a couple months. It'd be nice if they interviewed like normal and gave the new hires more time to get settled. They may hold off on the process tho.

Do you think they'll also hold off on testing invites? You're right about giving people new to the area time to find something. I know that passing the test is no guarantee to get the job.

I’ve heard from an internal source that there has been a hiring freeze put in place across all departments.

That is never a good sign. I've heard AA Management employees get a measly raise of 2 to 2.5 percent. Something is cooking in the industry.
