Southwest Fireworks

Unless I’m mistaken, the airplane is well behind the firework display, and at a higher altitude (perspective display).

I could be wrong.

I'd guess the smoke would have interacted with the lift vortices if the aircraft was close enough? It doesn't look like it did.

Wonder if they wrote it up once they got to the gate requesting an inspection for airborne artillery damage?

I think I'd be done for the day if that had happened to me.

Speaking of huge distractions, what do ya'll think of the giant LED geosphere in Vegas?

I’d like what fender benders go up to percentage wise. I thought that thing was a joke when I send it on a meme page.

Can't be much worse than the one casino at the end of the strip that has a very bright screen. I can see it from Arizona. Also very distracting when departing the ones.

Yeah they were launching them from the neighborhood next to the 49ers stadium off the 30R departure end where planes go straight over those houses. I'm a huge fan of illegal fireworks because 'Murikeh, and the last few years I've gathered people on rooftops in the neighborhoods where people stock pile them rather than going out to official shows since you see so many more fireworks and from 830PM to 2AM usually. But up until now, people have had the common sense to not launch them near the end of runways. From the South San Francisco building rooftop I was on, I could clearly see people launching them FROM THE LONG TERM PARKING LOT AT SFO! Right off the departure end of the 28s. Happened several times from there over the night, then of course the people would high tail it out of there. Had there been a slow-climbing 28R departure, would have been just like this video.

They should just legalize fireworks in the Bay Area. Tens of thousands of them are going off each 4th of July + NYE + Cinco de Mayo + Chinese New Year anyway. It'd only be safer and people are more likely to not do it near airports if it is allowed elsewhere legally. If its illegal, people will just use any open lot or street. Cops can't keep up with it anyway, they barely are even able to enforce it.

Seems like a pretty much direct hit?

The only video I could find of the view from the inside was on Instagram and won't share correctly, but I'm sure somebody can find it.

That is not the same video as the in-cabin one actually. Lol. The guy who got the in-cabin video is a local spotter, it was a 30R departure. This is an arrival, and the main display in the video was the official downtown SJC display. Tho obviously those last 2 bursts are amature. So lol I guess it happened more than once, on opposite ends of SJC.

Now I'm not saying a 737 is a stout as a Honda Odyssey, but even the van in this video was not damaged by being hit with a couple of fireworks.

“To her surprise, no one was injured and the vehicle in the video was not damaged by the explosion and ensuing fire.

"It runs and drives perfectly fine," [the homeowner] said of her Honda Odyssey.”

This happened because AR-15 Jesus was angry. Who lights off fireworks this early?
