Oh Skywest (or Southwest)?

Down here by Pendleton we get a lot of Corporal Dumbasses in their lifted penis enhancement trucks flexing on...someone? Word to the wise, E-4. Put that money in savings or invest in a 401k.

what’s going on with the remains of San Onofre?

If you want to see the epicenter for lifted diesel dumbassery travel to the 909, The Valley Of The Dirt People, or as it's properly known the Inland Empire area of Southern California. Lots of polished $75K lifted diesel trucks that will likely see nothing more rigorous than parking in the owners friends front yard (sometimes by his wife).
C’mon it’s the 951 now. 909 is classy OG IE

Cold water so you have to wear a wetsuit in the winter.
Added bonus: if you’re a SCE customer you get a little fee every month for the decommissioning.

interesting. Makes one wonder how much longer it would’ve stayed in operation if they didn’t have the issue with the steam generators from Japan that didn’t work as advertised. Did it produce a good amount of electricity during its time?

Always wonder if the Palo Verde station outside of metro PHX will last for long, it’s has it’s own issues over time.

Way back in the dark ages of 1989 a much younger me was a Navy Hospital Corpsman working at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune. I was a ward jockey at the time, working in what passed for a Pediatrics ward. We got this kid in, maybe 30 days old, admitted for failure to thrive, i.e. he wasn't gaining weight, at all really. Nice kid, no trouble at all. Well, all we really did was feed him properly and see what happened, and what happened was he gained a pound in 3 days.

Navy family services got into the act, seems daddy, a LCpl (E-3), had a nice car, a very nice car, a new Corvette. Momma wasn't going to let Jr. eat the old fashioned way, and well, formula was cutting into gas money, so baby got sugar water. Later, and not much later at that, I cared for his premee younger brother when I worked the Newborn nursery. Both of them ended up with the grandparents, which I hope was an improvement, but then the last kid they raised was the daddy in this story.

Those kids are in their early 30's now, damn I'm old.

In a related, but obviously different category, my SO had a couple bring in a cat with multiple ailments. Cat looked horrible and was pretty much on the verge of a total systemic failure. Poor thing had vitals and blood work all over the map. When asked what they were feeding the cat, the couple explained they were vegans, and therefore were feeding the cat an entirely vegan diet.

When the explanation of the concept of "obligate carnivore" was made to the owners, and the cat returned to a normal diet, it went on to a full recovery.

At 20% APR no doubt.

Ehh I think it depends on how SCE calculated the long term benefit of being responsible for a power plant that was “aging and not a popular method of producing electricity.” In the late 90’s Edison went through a huge reshuffle that created SCE and in turn they sold most of the power generating stations and became focused on grid network (sub stations, power lines, etc.). Couple that with California legislation that turned to “cleaner” sources of energy and SCE wanted nothing to do with power generation rather just buy from sources that met the legislative mandate. This turned chaotic in the early 2000’s with the blackouts and electricity shortages. Arguably one of the main reasons Gov. Davis got recalled. So today SCE is in the business of maintaining a network with little to no generation liability.

the arguments are plentiful when it comes to nuclear generation and I do not want to get into that. Suffice to say, public education on the issue was emotionally driven and I’m sure with a few clicks you can figure out how that worked out.

it’s an interesting history indeed. Didn’t know SCE now does only network and next to no generation. Interestingly, SCE is a fairly well paying job in their flight department there at CNO.

Well, with what they charge I’m not surprised. ;)

Hey, hey, hey.........There are a lot of terrific people out here too, all kinds of farmer's markets and swap meets, commercial plant and flower farms, ranches, farms, dairies, orchards, (agricultural and beef industry is huge out here) places to hike, camp, ride horses, fish, boating, all kinds of music festivals, hot air balloon rides, dozens of wineries, bike trails, lots of lakes, wonderful BBQ joints, historic places, art galleries, all kinds of craft beers, great live county music performers, skads of music concerts, museums, street fairs, skiing near by, hunting, outdoor shooting ranges, drag racing, the Auto Club Speedway (NASCAR), classic car shows, lot's of wildlife, baseball games, golf, many really incredible restaurants and diners, part of Route 66, spas, casinos all over the place, prices are cheaper than L.A. or Orange County, and great climate. Most importantly, is that there are all kinds of open spaces, laid back atmosphere, beautiful mountains and National Parks and lastly, one old git living on an off grid ranch with a bunch of disgruntled Vets.

I’m glad to see the ranch is still thriving.

A few weeks ago I was driving out on the 60 through the Moreno Valley and was amazed at how much the valley has changed since I was young. I think your ranch is south of the 60 but a lot of what you write is true with ONE exception. My aunt lives in Banning and those late summer months were oppressively hot when we used to go out to spend time with her. Granted, I’m from the South Bay so anything lacking an ocean breeze in the summer is “hot” for me. Everyone’s mileage may vary.

Again, very cool that the ranch is still going strong.

I bet the person in the other seat was squirming.

I understand spending time with someone for a while but this kind of behavior should be called out, by either side.

Serious question, what would happen to the FO if they spoke up to the captain in this scenario? What’s the captain going to do? Throw the FO off the flight?

I went to college in Claremont/Upland, and the places you could get to in an hour were amazing. I’d surf or get up into the San Gabriels or San Berardinos pretty much ever weekend. And the places you could get to in 3hrs? Incredible...Joshua Tree, Anza Borrego, the Southern Sierras, Big Bear. It was also a fantastic place to learn to fly.
