Got a date yesterday to start training! WOoo Oct 31st!
mj and scrt: Congrats on the jobs! Found out a few days ago I'm in the Nov 7th class. I'd love to hear a bit about what the first few days are like. Big question - what time do you recommend trying to arrive in Houston on the 6th? Any items you've figured out from your first day that you wish you brought but didn't, or are really glad you did? What hotel and what are the rooms like? Are they suites or just generic two bed single rooms? Hopefully with a good table to study on? What info do they give you on the first day? Any other information in general? PM me if you don't want to post in public. Thanks!
DrRhythm2 said:Thanks - oh one more kinda silly question. Assuming that you are not supposed to wear uniforms during training, is there a dress code? Slacks and button downs? Anything vaguely professional? When the time comes, do you have to pay for all of your uniform gear?
Have any of you new hires done the ASA/DL flight ops internship? I was talking to a recruiter a few days ago, she made it sound like you were set if you did an internship with any airline, not even just ASA or DL. Mainly through reduced minimums, connections, ect...
I did the Mesaba internship and it only helps for the airline in which you did it at
That's what I thought too, but the ASA recruiter said that ANY flight ops internship would give me the reduced minimums. Now I'm trying to figure out if I should spend a summer doing an internship with either AA or DL or spend the summer building time...

Based on my experience with several of the ASA/XJT recruiters / interviewers, they are pretty open and honest. I would believe what they say - if you have a specific question, call or email one of them, or get confirmation from someone else before you make specific plans for the summer. You might flat out ask them if you are better off taking the internship or building extra time.
That is complete crap!!!! Go ahead and believe it but you are a moron if you do. Pinnacle was hiring since I completed the internship and they owned Mesaba, they wouldnt even give me the time of day until I met the mins, the director of flight ops even tried to get us over there. I talked to Compass, ASA and Eagle too and nothing ( 2 of which I had VERY good personal contacts in HR). The closest thing it got me was no 500 ME at Compass because of systems ground school from it, which they now offer to everyone so really that didnt even do it. I repeat it only works for the airline In which you do it. BUILD time! Do what you want though its not my career. With all that said it was an amazing experience and I learned a TON and I would do it again ( not now but before, I also flew 100 hrs during my time there in a 172 so I didnt get behind in flying hrs) butI can guarantee it wont get you anywhere for anyone else, it IS airline specific.
I got the call yesterday. November 7 class date. Looking forward to joining the team!
