    So, what so you do?

Try being a cop. It's even worse. Since I fly part time, I usually end up telling people I'm a pilot just to avoid the "can I ask you a question about a ticket I got?". When on duty, you can not even get into the store to get a cup of coffee without getting barraged by questions.

    Beechjet accident in Macon, GA

I can attest, there was some pretty crappy weather in the southeast today. Glad everyone made it out of that one ok.

    Confused..

That's the way it looks to me. No doubt, without an HSI or a BC switch, it would be a pain in the rear.

    Confused..

I believe you'll only get reverse sensing when flying the reciprocal course inbound. You should receive normal sensing outbound as well.

    Wife getting 1st ride

It seems like a long time ago that I was giving my wife her first ride in a 172 after I got my private license. Now she will have a chance to ride in a Citation that we are taking back to town from maintenance. This will be the first time that she will see me fly in a professional environment...

Forget a DUI, How About A FUI!

I always see that FUI button when I fire up the datamaster for a DUI. Doubt I'll ever have to use it....we also have "BUI" in SC.

    Adverse Yaw

Yeah, I overcomplicated it. I wasn't even thinking of the lift/drag relationship. Makes sense, thanks.

    Adverse Yaw

I was trying to wrap my brain around something and couldn't quite get it. Given that adverse yaw is caused by the rising wing's lowered aileron which causes more drag on that wing, as opposed to the lowered wing having less drag, what exactly is the explanation as to why the rising wing has...

New student- Look for confidence boost

I wasn't landing any planes on my 3rd lesson. Well, I was "trying" to land planes on my 3rd lesson. Things will click sometime in the next few lessons and you will get the hang of it. Just make sure you have a good instructor who will let you fly the plane and doesn't get nervous every time...

    Trip to Seattle/Portland

That's what I thought when I first saw it until one of the museum guys explained it. He said that thing on top is a primative UAV. After Francis Powers was shot down in the U2 over Russia, Eisenhower signed an agreement that the US would never again fly a "manned" aircraft over Russia. So they...

    Trip to Seattle/Portland

Getting a little out of order, but some other various photos. Mt. St. Helens. View of Seattle from the Space Needle. Another from the Space Needle. Concord cockpit. Old Air Force One 707 cockpit.

    Trip to Seattle/Portland

Half way from GMU to JAC. Staying neat and organized. A strange little lake in the middle of the desert in Wyoming. Visual approach into JAC. Beautiful day at JAC, stay a little hazy though. Enroute to BFI, diverting for weather about every 20 miles. I felt like I was breaking the law...

    Jackson Hole

I did not mean for that to sound offensive to anyone. It was just kind of strange because I was cleared for the visual approach and the tower didn't alert me to any traffic, and then there he was coming in on long final as I was on base. If you knew me, you would not have taken this as a...

I will be flying into KJAC for the first time next week. Anything special that's good to know about it? I'm trying to get as much of a heads up about it so I can avoid any surprises. Any advice will be appreciated.

    would it be illegal?

If you go out there and pop wheelies and drive at high rates of speed, you could be cited for reckless driving by state or local officials. The two traffic violations you can be charged with in SC on private property is reckless driving and DUI. Couldn't say for sure in other states. I'd be...

    Controlling Virgin Galactic flights?

Off the wall question I was thinking about. When Virgin Galactic starts running flights, how will atc work with this? Since I assume reentry is non powered, will they have to clear a vertical block of airspace for the descent of the spacecraft? Will the pilots have to get a separate clearence...

    Squawk Codes....

I was curious about that as well. We got assigned 0006 the other day. I thought it was interesting to get issued such a low number. I wonder if 0001 have ever been handed out.

    Trip to St. Lucia

I'd say it was quite worth it. We should have thought about trying to work something out like that. Man, that sucks that you got sick. We really didn't explore the island at all, just went for some runs down the beach past Sandles and the airport.

Over the atlantic this Virgin 747 passed 1,000 feet above us. The crappy Ipad cam doesn't do it any justice, but pretty neat to see contrails that close, spinning like a vortex. Nasty storm over the atlantic. We had to divert 10 miles off course to get around this bad boy. We were FL410...

    Citation down in NC

The updated article said something about someone commenting that the approach looked very steep. That combined with a 4400 foot runway is probably not a good combination. Steep approaches in the citation, even when on speed, tend to cause you to float like a mofo. But I hate to speculate.

    Icing-What do you do?

The main thing that scares me about icing is the unpredictability of it. Even after the exhaustive testing and research on the topic, they still can't definitively say, "you will pick up ice when the sat is x degrees and the rat is x degrees, and the severity of that ice is predicated on x...

    Icing-What do you do?

    Favorite aviation (moves) movies???

What was that made for tv movie about United 232? I think it was called "a thousand heroes" or something like that. I remember that it was pretty decent, but I did watch it like 20 years ago, so I can't say for sure.
