Got an email asking to go to Louisiana?

So got a call today asking me if I would go to Shreveport, Monroe or Lake Charles instead of my slated Baton Rouge and go to an earlier class date...I'll be going to Shreveport and my class is May 21st.

Well that's good news!

Hopefully once the rest of my clearances are in I won't have to wait until October for a class date!

that is great news for you..........also great to see Monroe on that list.
Now I just have to patiently wait on my clearances and hopefully it will move quickly from there on.:)

I'm getting a little frustrated because everytime I call Oklahoma Training Center (I believe that's what it is), I constantly get the run around. I'm being told to contact my point of contact and that's all the information he can give me. I don't know what to do and feel as if I have been very patient (roughly over a year since applying) with no word or additional assistance. I understand that I'm not the only one in this position and feel for anyone who has to go through it. But for those who have went beyond the point of receiving a TOL, what do the rest of us do (besides patiently waiting)? I constantly read that the state of Louisiana need people and I am more than willing to take a position there at the drop of a hat. I just can't get in touch with anyone that can get the ball rolling.

If you have received a TOL then you should be trying to get in contact with your HR rep. If you have not gotten a TOL then there's really nothing you can do except wait, as far as I know.

Looks like I'll be headed to MSY with a May 21st date too. Do you know if we'll be getting a new TOL, or if we just get a FOL at this point? 5/21 is approaching quickly.

Hope to see you at the academy!

I'm going to try to call our HR specialist tomorrow to work out the details.

She told me to expect my FOL in a few days via email, so I didn't question it...but I would think we would need to sign a new TOL...but idk...it's the government.

There was no TOL, I got my FOL today, going to OKC 5/21/09! :D

Now to fill out the paperwork...

Oh yeah, today is my birthday too, so that's the best present I got!

I am going to MSY as well and got my FOL for a class date on 5/21 So glad I am done waiting. Are they going to mail a packet or is the rest up to us?

I'm with my brother in chalmette right now, which is probably the ideal place to find somewhere to live if you're going to work at NEW. MSY and NEW are in very close proximity too, but metairie or kenner would be better for MSY. I need to find out what I'm doing about housing still while in OKC. I need more time to start investigating places to live.

I checked out Metairie the other day when I came in to checkout New Orleans. I wasnt 100% impressed. I'm flying out again in a week and gonna check out Slidell. I hear its about 20-30mins to NEW. Where is Chalmette? Nice area? How much for 2bedroom apartment?

If you're looking for action Metairie is about as good as we have next to being in the city. Chalmette is generally a safer area though. Chalmette didn't come back since Katrina, it's all houses, no wal-mart, k-mart, or target. It's close to everything though. I never looked into renting a house down here, so I'm about as informed as you are on that. If you search online it's in St. Bernard Parish. From chalmette you don't even have to get on the interstate to get to lakefront.

PSST. chris... try covington/mandeville. it might cost a little more to live there but taking the twinspan takes longer than taking the causeway.

the only downside is that nasty 2 dollar, one-way toll. but its not like were going to be making 36K off the bat.

as for those that got MSY, hopefully ill see you in about 3 or 4 years.

Ferret's comparing Slidell to Mandeville. Chalmette has no bridges, but it does sound like you would be bored in Chalmette anyway.

hehe ya i forgot to elaborate.

anyway id debate on northshore vs. southshore too.

im sure chris already got the earfull.

chalmette's really not that bad, plus getting to work or new orleans would be a breeze...

downside? chalmette took a serious beating from Katrina and never really recovered meaning businesses havent moved back in and theres always the possibility of getting a poorly renovated flood appartment.

up north you really dont have the problem with flooded cars, buildings, or offices being refurnished and smelling/looking terrible not to mension the health risks.

id be carefull with finding the right place to move down to.

The causway takes less time then twin peaks?! Its like 3 times as long in mileage???

welll. they dont run parallel. the twinspan end farther to the east southbound.

basically the causeway cuts straight through the lake, where the twinspan kind of goes around it.
