The Attack on the 2nd Amendment Continues

Unless they plan on trying to confiscate all existing rifles, "high capacity" magazines and bayonet lugs (and good luck with that. I wouldn't want to be the ATF agent going door to door doing that) then all this will do is make massacres like this slightly more costly.

The guns are already here. An "assault weapons ban" will do absolutely nothing except make having some of these rifles more expensive -- but there has been almost a decade since the AWB sunsetted -- millions of rifles which would have been banned have been produced since then.

As you say, the notion that this supposed danger is real is, eh, a fantasy. The best the plutocrats can hope for is to choke off the supply of ammo, and they've zero chance of effecting that in the forseeable future, even in our utterly corrupt Pretend Republic.
 
Well if they do ever manage to ban them, I think there'd be big opportunity in selling them. Lots of money to be made. The price on existing one's would go up tenfold overnight.
Business idea - buy a ton of ARs an AKs, then support an "assault" weapons ban. Profit $$$.
Just like if I was a drug cartel. I would actively lobby the US govt to keep drugs illegal. In this case it's guns.

Or it could be an angry, sociopath from outside the school. Or, if a teacher wanted to shoot up a class, he or she would bring a gun in anyway, the law wouldn't matter. I get what you're saying thought, I'm just extending the argument if that makes sense.

The fact that you can't figure out his point makes me doubt that you would be qualified to "educate" me on the constitution.

Very simple, his point is:

The 210 million people in the United States who don't own guns think ya'll are nut jobs because of the way you talk about your guns.

NEED MORE GUNS AND MORE AMMOS!!! = Nut job.

I'm sure you're not a nutjob, but the way you guys talk about your guns isn't really beneficial to your cause.

For sure, again I'm not against. Just bringing up the idea of some jackass student pushing the teachers buttons and it escalates to a pull.

Is it possible? Sure. Just about anything is possible. But do I think it's a realistic possibility? Not really. I find the chance of it happening incredibly remote. Far, far less likely than another mentally ill person shooting up a school.

From what I've read from you so far, it seems like even a below-average junior high civics student would be qualified to educate you on the Constitution.

The polling data doesn't support that belief. Of those 210 million people, a whole hell of a lot of them grew up in environments with guns. They just choose not to have any themselves at the moment. Here's some relevant polling:

Oh sure, it's as likely as you joining in a discussion on Tacos. But that doesn't mean the rest of us can't talk about it.
 
Again, we're arguing about this RASH OF HOMICIDES which DOES NOT EXIST. Yes, WHEN someone decides to murder, they seem to murder more people, on average, than 20 years ago. But FEWER people are murdered than 20 years ago. It's indisputable. So what we're really crapping our pants about is the fact that the homicides that DO occur are more telegenic and "scary" than the homicides that occurred when we were kids. It's all style and no substance. We've been killing each other since God was a child, but now it's a National Crisis because...because what? Because it's televised? Because the victims are kids? How many little black kids caught one in the head because some • drug dealer opened fire on the home of some other • drug dealer? Were they any less innocent because Dad dealt drugs? Every murder of anyone, for any reason, is horrific. And any murder of a child is, somehow, I agree, even worse. But the way it's being presented is pure Theatre. There must be a Hero(ine), there must be a Story. There's no screwing Story that informs us about Ourselves and gives us a transcendent sense of the Human Condition. This isn't a movie. There's no script, there's no easy denoument in which we discover who's Bad and why. It's just a horrible thing that happened.

Like horrible things have been happening since our ancestors waddled out of the primordeal ooze. Six million Jews. 20 million serfs and "counter-revolutionaries" under Stalin. Two million Cambodians under Pol Pot. A million Armenians by the Turks. Plenty of freaking Turks by the Armenians and Kurds.

But our reaction to this is to put MORE power in to the hands of the State, which, like other States has as its primary motivation the care and feeding of...itself. Always and forever itself, this cancer. And you want more? Guess you don't hate murder all that much.

It was a joke, but the chart says nothing about nut jobs, just desire for gun control over time. Unless Tapatalk us showing me a different chart then you are seeing. As to the joke, I bet ATN liked it.
