The Attack on the 2nd Amendment Continues

So, for all saying that he wouldn't use executive orders on gun control matters - today's presser included him saying that he would use executive orders on some gun control measures. Thoughts?

Here is another poll to chew on with Americans favoring more gun control...

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/01/14/poll-gun-control-that-americans-support/

By a 51-45% margin people say that it is more important to control guns than protect the 2nd amendment.

In other news, a significant (80%) number of Americans favor major restrictions on abortion. So...if there is gun control - because "the people" want it, would you say that there should be major restrictions on abortions as well? I mean, "the people" favor it and all.

It will be very interesting for ATN.

He favors outright socialism, or at least some form social-democracy that is restrictive.

He also favors guns.

Those two things are incompatible, at least in the US. Large numbers think Obama is a socialist, and think Obamacare and other things he has done are socialist - this is not in dispute. The question is whether ATN likes the idea of social democracy better, or guns better? This will be fun to watch.

Didn't you hear what he actually said he would do with executive orders? Not anything related to gun control. He very skillfully backed away from VP Biden's mistake.

Guns and socialism are not incompatible. That's a crazy notion you've conjured up in your partisan head.

But I doubt you're going to find much to watch, anyway. I suspect that this is all going to fade away to nothing in a few months when everyone realizes that the Republicans in the House aren't budging.

Guns and Americans being forced into socialism is incompatible. It isn't that the 53%-47% "just disagree" - they pretty much hate each other, what the others believe, and hate the political figures of the opposing party. And I don't think "hate" is too strong a word in many cases actually.

I hate to break it to you, but most Americans think your definition of "socialism" is bunk.

It isn't "my" definitions I am going on or that are relevant. It is what "the people" think, not me. I think the Bush family, Romney and Boehner are too close to socialism for my taste - but that's just me. No, I'm talking about what "the people" think. Or at least the half that hate Obama/democrats.

What you still don't seem to understand is that the demographics are changing. Today, it's a 53/47 split. In four years it will be a 55/45 split. In other four, it will be 57/43. And so on. That's what General Powell was talking about over the weekend. The Republicans have alienated everyone who isn't a straight white male. If they're not willing to change that (and it looks like they aren't), then their share of the vote continues to dwindle each election cycle. What you call "socialism" is what will be called "centrism" in another decade. Get used to it.

General Powell is a self-serving D-bag.

You can call anything by any name, but that doesn't change what it is. A government controlled economy and radical egalitarianism is socialism to me.
