4 flights a week observing while waiting for IOE? That's more flights than I'm doing now as a reserve FO!

Yeah, they're really overdoing it. One series of observations (5-6) right before OE is a much better idea.

Still. I'm glad that someone over there has realized OBS ought to be (and, in fact, will be) required, even if they are wildly off target on the amount.

That's a lot of effort for an FNG with no airline experience to make work! Maybe the JW, RB and TTs of the world will get CS to build these guys actual pairings to observe, list them on the manifest and give the operating crews a heads-up.


But, any new hires that need to observe, drop me a line, I'll be doing ORD turns on the weekends.

I'd want them written as rot...pairings as well. That way, the Company can easily demonstrate compliance when the NPRM requiring OBS flights becomes effective, they can be listed as crewmembers on the release to give us a heads-up, they are logged as duty, and so on.

Yeah, if anyone in MSP wants to be mildly amused as I fly my one turn a week, hit me up.

Of course, I'm on reserve, so I don't ever know what I'm doing until I'm doing it.

I'm based in MSP too and had to be sent to ORD for my one turn last week. So far on day 3 of 4 with nothing yet this week. Thankfully I have some long off day stretches next month, maybe I will pick something up during one of them just to see if I remember how to fly.
 
Has anyone had trouble jumpseating on Horizon flights? I was just awarded SEA and will be commuting from PDX which makes Horizon my most frequent option. My friends that work there say I should be good to go as long as I am respectful and courteous ( which should be a given when a crew is giving you a ride to work/home). I have also heard a few stories of guys getting booted simply because of the captain saying they don't want a SkyWest guy in the jump...

Just hoping that is all rumors and as long as I show up with a good attitude I won't have to stress about missing flights due to the company I fly for..

Never had an issue with them, ride with them fairly often. Occasionally you run into a captain who has been around a while and may say a few things about this or that, but otherwise they have been more than great.

And lather, rinse, repeat. Back in ORD again, at least this time I'm sitting reserve in a better hotel.

Summer time they can get overloaded with fish from AK and you'll get bumped. I got bumped a few times just because of that.
