Man Dragged off United Flight

@Bonanzaman Well, you don't know how to respond out of the quotes...it's not that difficult. So, to allow others to do foolish things all for a quick buck isn't backwards?

So they are rent a cops?

No. They work for the Department of Aviation, but are Security Officers. Apparently, they can't arrest anyone or carry a gun. So, perhaps that answers how this incident turned into such a mess.

Monday afternoon, Aviation Department spokeswoman Karen Pride said the officer who dragged the passenger off the plane has been placed on leave, pending an investigation.

“The incident on United flight 3411 was not in accordance with our standard operating procedure and the actions of the aviation security officer are obviously not condoned by the Department,” Pride said in an email.

The department doesn't mention police officer...

I remember reading about the decision to not arm them... something to the effect of these guys will be the police you call when there's an active shooter, yet they'll be running for their lives too.

Trust me. No one will two craps about this in a few days. Its just like every other 'viral' video ever made. It gets some traction, gets shared millions of times, becomes a conversation, then it disappears.

This is true.

I almost guarantee that this time next week, it'd be like it never happened.

My mom would have said, "Boy? Why didn't you take yo' fool ass off that airplane, all this sh— could have been easily avoided. But naw, you had to prove a point. Still worth it? Go pick me a switch and amma beat yo' ass".

What are you trying to point out?

What are you trying to point out?
For clarification of duties/responsibilities, that indeed they can and do arrest people, because someone who works at a hotel stated that, "Apparently, they can't arrest anyone" and someone else mentioned "what authority they do or do not have."

I had an arrest in SLC about two months ago. Not sure who showed up, but they certainly got the job done.

And that's all the details you're getting! :)

"Arrest" and "detain" are different things. I suspect that they're detaining someone until Chicago PD shows up to arrest them and take them into custody. A fine line, but an important one.

From the very article @Avgirl posted. She'd have seen it had she scrolled down through the whole thing.

"Chicago has two law-enforcement forces that patrol O’Hare and Midway airports: the Chicago Police Department, whose officers are armed, and Department of Aviation police, whose officers are unarmed. Aviation officers alone handled the situation aboard the United flight."
