Latest offer from FedEx management: We know it sucks here, we worked out an offer for you guys to go to PSA instead!

Weird flex, bro.

Is there a hierarchy of jobs in professional aviation? Where do you fit on the hierarchal spectrum?

Believe me, I’m on the fringe.

Especially when I get this reference, and no one else does.

Just remember, Comm is the voice of the MEC. You have to be comfortable supporting their message to be there. I resigned as comm chair years ago because I couldn't support the MEC, let alone correct their grammar and spelling.
My first union role was comm chair during bankruptcy. Do not recommend.

Yes, obviously. The order is like this…

Legacy/major airline pilots
Regional pilots
CFIs
Convicts at your local prison doing construction work
Corpies

Inverse that list and that’s the order of my desire to do each job. You haven’t lived till you fly for a good part 91 job. Fly brand new large cabin jets making legacy money and barely work. I haven’t flown since early October and I haven’t taken any days off to do that.

I got in this job TO fly. Not sit around a desk and manage things on the ground. No offense.

Do you still fly in your ample time off just because you still love it? Or is it just a job? Is that what you always wanted?

And in the non flying time , you owe nothing to your company? No coming into the office, airport, etc? No desk job?

Sorry, if you worked for me and you sat around that long, you’d be fired. I clearly didn’t need a full time pilot.

So he doesn’t get to just sit home scot free?

You accuse wardog of making subtle implications about Covid in the Covid thread, but you’re doing the same thing here.
Read it again. The only “implication” that I made was that you don’t know what you’re talking about. And it wasn’t even close to being subtle.

SMFH

So you mean to tell me some Corpie flies 10 hrs/Month and does nothing but stay home the rest of the time, with no other duties for the company?

Every Corpie I’ve flown with explained how they had other duties for the company, that didn’t involve actual flying/pilot seat.

I fly about that much. My outside duties include completing my expense report which takes less than an hour and filling out a spreadsheet for our flight times which also takes less than an hour. Each of these are done monthly. I average 5 days of duty a month. 6 if you want to inclue that 2 hours that I fill out my report and spreadsheet... which i do from home.

I’ve been flying 8-11 days a month all year.

I know of 1 pilot who does other duties (non aviation related duties), definitely not the norm these days. There are aviation related tasks that get shared among the pilots such as maintenance management, database updates, hangar facilities (drinks, snacks, etc) and so on.

Luckily I learned very early on in the Navy, that the Navy stands for Never Again Volunteer Yourself. Unfortunately, I have had to learn that over and over and over. Luckily the ALPA roles I have raised my hand for so far, I have really liked.

Can you imagine if we had a union in the Navy? haha
