Latest offer from FedEx management: We know it sucks here, we worked out an offer for you guys to go to PSA instead!

That said, I cannot bring myself to bring myself to be in any working area of the union except maybe Safety. I'm impressed at how ALPA Safety and the company work together, but all the other shenanery is so immensely un-adult that I don't even want to try.

You get the union your pilot group as a whole deserves. The reality is that 76% of the group goes in, flies their trip, and goes home. It just depends on the make up of the other 25%.

I've been on various committees across two different properties for the last 16 years (minus one year on probation in the middle)... some plugged in, and some very much on the sidelines of union politics. In those 16 years I've worked for 6 different MECs.

Two were awesome and consistently put the pilot group as a whole first, even if it wasn't the popular thing. It got one of the MEC chairs recalled because of their position, despite his very difficult call being the right thing for the industry as a whole. Two of the MECs were terrible and almost exclusively pushed policy that only benefited themselves and their buddies, or just constantly appeared to be going to war with the company even though it was all smoke and no fire. They were popular with the pilot group as a whole even though nothing positive ever got done because a majority of the pilots have no idea what's going on outside their little bubble, and expect the world to conform to their world view.

I'd be like 47% in ANC, am 82% in SDF, and wild horses couldn't drag me back up there. That commute is a nightmare, plus, as per above, if I never go to China again, it'll be too soon.
From scrolling through the B&G during COVID all I can say is sorry, and I had nothing to do it. I think every fleet/base got crapped on during COVID but the stories I heard from ANC folks took the cake.

That’s a weird way to look at someone pointing out why things are the way they are but you do you…

Bro,

You’re a weird dude. I can’t imagine taking shots at my fellow pilots in a downturn like this. I sure didn’t during COVID.

Karma is a b. Good luck bro. I’m just bummed someone that rides bikes is such a prick.

Just remember, Comm is the voice of the MEC. You have to be comfortable supporting their message to be there. I resigned as comm chair years ago because I couldn't support the MEC, let alone correct their grammar and spelling.
That's fair. I mostly maintained the website and sent emails. Now I am on the IT committee and reset passwords lol.

I think you need to re-examine your life if someone points out that shipping prices have crashed post Covid. And that may be the reason we are seeing such a weird offer being presented to FedEx pilots.

So now you’ve called me a bunch of names and if I react to it then I’ll be the angry guy.

Not this time. Nice try though. You may want to seek some help for your anger issues. As I’ve seen in my own pilot group that can get real bad if it’s not managed.

I'm with BEEF on this one. Industry factors play a huge role in what a group can achieve. It doesn't mean you can't do better than your TA1, or at least redirect the focus some, but at the end of the day, every pilot needs to be realistic about the world they are operating in. Pointing that out isn't being a dick.

Was there something in the article link posted that was critical of the employees of cargo? It seems like mostly just stats of the broad freight industry from what I saw?

Yawn.

I think it's the tone of how it came off that Gypsy had a problem with. I'm pretty sure Fedex pilots know what the economy looks like for cargo, worldwide shipping, etc.

They don't need an ex-Corpie telling them how it is. :)

If business isn’t good then the bargaining won’t be neither.

It’s just a tribal JC thing. It only makes sense in that context.

I'd love to hear how this looks to @USN88 since he was in front of all this in departing the Purple flaming dumpster.

Big difference between a (presumably junior) guy who is just going to plain quit Purple to go back and be a street capt at a regional vs an AA pilot who has taken an early retirement buyout and is going back to a regional for spending money.

Lots of friends still behind, with many years to go. I’m rooting for them. For us all.
