Furlough tracking

Found out that Horizon is going to be furloughing 12 more soon :(, January 2010. Takes us back to October 2006 on the list...

I know RAH is anticipating some bypasses, but that still doesn't explain, IMO, the "96". A lot can change in the 6 months they plan on recalling. They even said 20 at the end of this month, a number to be determined in March, and a few classes in May "as needed". To me, that doesn't make the number 96 concrete. My guess is they don't want to appear as understaffed as they really are and will recall everybody down the road. I heard that a very very senior pilot got "unstacked" on for Dec. If that doesn't scream understaffed, I don't know what does. I'm betting Dec schedules were the official uncovering of the problem and since they couldn't hide it anymore, they had to recall and decided 96 would make them look deliberate.

Or, hopefully they're back to flying mainline metal over at AirTran for substantially more than what they would if they were "recalled" to RAH.

I just have a BAAAD feeling about that whole thing. If all the RAH guys are recalled, and THEN the Midwest guys are recalled without having the seniority list issues fixed, I could totally see RAH management offering them right seat in a 175 or a 50 seater, take it or leave it.

Surreal,

It might make you feel better if some Midwest pilots go to AirTran, but it would still be a paycut and return to the bottom of the seniority list. To each their own.

Kellwolf and Surreal, et al,

You guys are right about the Midwest guys being in the penalty box atm. Their certificate going away is the reason they are not flying. However they are not getting recalled first for a different, yet slightly (emphasis on slightly) related reason- the integration. Historically, their turn in recall will come once they have a spot on the seniority list. Those who were actively flying at the point of merger will go back first and will likely have a seniority number somewhere amongst the "active" RAH pilots. They will be offered what their seniority will hold. The non-active Midwest pilots will be integrated with the non-active RAH and Frontier pilots and recalled in order of the integration number I believe. Many of the Midwest pilots have lost everything. My guess is many of the top 300 (120 of which were active) will be hoping for a good spot on the seniority list. Unfortunately, only those 120 active stand a fighting chance. The bottom 100 or so may have a better showing whether or not they get put near the bottom as quite a few weren't at Midwest for nearly as long as the senior pilots. Quite a few already went to AirTran. Quite a few Skyway pilots went to AirTran. The popularity of AirTran isn't the pay, it's the fact that they are staging in MKE and appear to be strong.

No empirical data available, but most of the Midwest guys I encountered a year ago up in MKE at an event were in their last 10-15 years of this career.

10-15 years at AirTran, while at the bottom - now, would still provide more earning power over that period than if they went to RAH at current negotiated rates. I can't comment on what RAH's negotiating committee will be able to get, considering they're not a mainline company - operating mainline sized aircraft - which now there is no excuse to accepting "regional" peanut wages. Which was my point falcon. Plus AirTran is also in negotiations, to hopefully attain level compensation as Alaska recently. I'm sure they're striving for SWA narrowbody pay, but pay isn't the only element in the compensation make-up.

But anyway - had fun.

Here is to some "recall" postings here soon. . .or at the very least, furlough notices instead of the commentary this thread has drifted off into.

Add me to the list of furloughs. Should get the official notice next monday when our realignment bid closes. Time to go fill out the unemployment papers.

You just don't like me because I've been in the gang that has called you out on shenanigans elsewhere.

I really don't think you are in any position right now to help me get a job anyhow that I would be interested if my information is correct.

It is really amusing when some individual, impotent to do anything anyways, threatens another when it comes to the job search.

You stay classy, :rotfl:

By the way, who is "butt" is that some inside joke I should be in on to appreciate your constructive and helpful post? Or maybe you meant to use a word that is prohibited. I have no clue, nappy time.

Tomorrow is another day of killing Hajis on MW2.
That's pretty funny right there considering who you're talking too.

Mike is one of the most selfless people out there when it comes to helping people out and he seems to have only one simple requirement: don't be a dooshe.

Mesaba. I think theres about 150 on furlough right now. Probably another 150 behind me.

Gotcha, sorry man.

Buddy of mine who was furloughed from PSA last winter, managed to get hired by Mesaba early this year, is also back to the street. Initials are CL.

Keep your head up, #1 job right now is to find work. Jobs are out there though, might not be flying, but there are good paying jobs for professionals to be had.

Yea I knew a few guys from PSA. A lot from TSA too. Sucks. I mean this is my first furlough so I can't complain too much. But some of these guys, this is their 2nd sometimes 3rd furlough in the past few years. Those are the guys we should be thinking about. Crazy industry we got into huh.

I'll be behind you in a bit.

Praying Delta has some mercy on us.

Are you guys losing even more Saabs than previously thought? Another 150 seems pretty steep. Every time I pick up a new bid pack, we're starting service to another "Saab" city outta MEM. Sorry, guys. :(

Ok guys, I am trying but I lost track, how many pilots total is on the streets? Did anyone read last month AOPA flight training mag, they were talking about success stories, about a CO FO, and his flight experience, at the end of the article he was or is furloughed going to work with his dad. It is sad that our success stories are based on experience before furloughs.

Just about every airline has people on furlough. And those that are recalled are being replaced by others furloughing so I suspect the overall number is still about the same. Mesa is one that is adding to the list monthly, they were saying 500 or more on furlough by spring.
