Obligatory hero shot

Thanks are owed.
@derg for running this place. I literally never would have ended up where I am without it.
@ppragman for bringing me to Juneau and getting me hooked on flying in Southeast, and for the use of your couch those first couple weeks.
@Capt. Chaos for teaching me things that literally kept me alive flying in Southeast as a wet behind the ears lower 48er.
@Rocketman99 and @Cheechako for introducing me to people and writing recommendations.
Too many others to name on here who have shaped my professional development and slowly talked me into going 121.

No AQP or is the six month deal for new hires. When we got AQP at Brown it was nice to only have to go to training once a year. Congratz by the way. My cousin is doing F/O stuff at your base.

Like roger said, 6 months for newhires onlyā€¦..and ho boy, I had my first full year between CQs this spring (actually 13 months due to grace month), and i felt very rusty. It went great, but i spent a lot of time on my own preparing/listening to pod casts on the way to the airport about the 737/studying the books.

Finished my 6 month CQ today. 4 months until year 2 pay kicks inā€¦

Beautiful man. Thatā€™s a very nice bump. And before you know it, youā€™ll have the last huge bump at year 3, until you upgrade. And we both get another in Sep. Love it

And to be very honest, Iā€™ve been out so much on mil leave lately trying to get a handle on my new mil duties, your hero pic makes me super miss being there. Like I want to be doing the walk around, saying hi to the rampers, and just having a gā€™damn sparkling water in shirtsleeves and talking about improving the ventilation of a backyard shed for like 5 hrs on a transcon. Itā€™s a pretty Fā€™ing great job that i am excited to be able to do more soon.

Iā€™d be looking pretty hard at the 8-10 year range on the payscale before you guys see an upgrade.

A lot depends on the merger but itā€™s not looking good at present. At the rate things are going Iā€™ll probably be back on the FO list soon too.

Eh, itā€™s alright I guess. If it werenā€™t for the long term pay, schedule control, vacation, etc, just comparing showing up to work and flying? Iā€™d rather be doing hoodrat ā€¢ with my friends in learjets. 6 hours on autopilot in the finest flying machine 1967 had to offer with another interchangeable middle aged white dude captain just isnā€™t as much fun.

Perfectly fine with me. I have no intent of bidding left until it is a good QOL, and even if i could right now, for the sake of my crews, Iā€™m just gonna say Iā€™m very much not ready. Not from a flying aspect, but from a running 121 ops perspective. They deserve better than some FNG with a couple whole years under their belt.

Yeah, the ā€œif it werenā€™t forā€ things you mention are why you are in a good spot now. Iā€™m just simple enough to actually have some pure enjoyment out of showing up for a trip, sipping a club soda from MT to MI, and then maybe nailing a decent landing and grabbing some fancy east coast dinner. Nobody ever said I wasnā€™t a Basic B, and where my PSLs at? Itā€™s almost Oct

the horror of a return to a normal career progression timeline

The pilot group gave up on 5 contractual days off in a row while on reserve. Hope they enjoy that. Because I donā€™t.

Thereā€™s no point in having travel benefits at this point. But I can enjoy a nice road trip to Yakima during the summer, I guess.

All I'm saying is look past the 3 year FO pay scale for financial planning.

Fair enough. I think financial planning, or maybe hustling to the max for a financially secure future is about my only hobby at this point. If you mean ā€œbe ready for the airline thing to go sidewaysā€, that has been my assumption since day one.

The MIL folks seem very fortunate to have a backup career they can utilize for the rough times. One of my classmates just bailed for the entire pandemic. If I had the option I'd definitely leave for a year or 5 right now.

I thought this years seemed pretty reasonable compared with the stories about last years kobayashi maru scenario. Also night and day from new hire training, but some of that might have just been luck of the draw with instructors.
