I think any lifelines for assistance that Putin would’ve been hoping for with Azerbaijan, would rapidly disappear, if he attempted that, whether accident or intentional by a Russian unit. Putin would have a lot of tapdancing to do, and it would be in his best interest to do so if only to try and preserve a diplomatic relation that he very much needs. That’s the logical take, which may or may not actually pan out in truth. Again, speculating that this was Russia. Hate to do that as that is unknown as of yet, in terms of only dealing with known facts.
 
Supposedly a Ukrainian drone attack was underway at the same time in the vicinity of this. I have no way of confirming that one way or the other.

When I first heard about the accident this is where my head went; that (Republic?) E170 where the wires to the pitch trim switches were chafed and shorting.

This flight was a diversion, so its presence may have been unexpected. Flightaware tells me Aktau airport gets 10-15 arrivals per day with only one Azerbaijan Airlines flight that typically arrives around 3AM.
 
May even be a situation similar to where the Iran IRGC ADA shot down Ukraine flight 752, the 737-800 about 5 years ago. Another mis-ID screwup, identifying the 737 as a cruise missile somehow, and with fatal consequences.

We didn’t need a reason, but if the rumors are true that Ukraine had just launched drone attacks, then yes this should be a wake up call to END the near 3 yr insanity. There is NO win for Ukraine. Time to negotiate what land part they will lose and end the war. But this is for a separate thread. Let’s keep it on the subject matter of the E190 crash.

Hang on. In other threads "annex" is a subject being discussed, particularly whether lands are purchased or taken by force. Should Russia just give up and pay Ukraine for the land they're going to keep after this debacle or will NATO foot the bill. Eastern Ukraine is not Ukraine anymore.

France wasn't France anymore because the Germans occupied it at one point? The conflict is ongoing. Who knows how it will shake out.
 
I haven’t been following the story but now I’m thankful we didn’t fly over any of that mess delivering the aircraft.
 
So Ukraine launched drones at Russia, Russia countered drones and then struck this E190 accidentally assuming it was a Ukrainian drone. Do I have that right?

As I said, this ends one way. Or you can drag it out, STILL have it end that way eventually, but I’m the process continue to kill people on all sides.
