American Pilots Hate New Uniform

Got a couple friends at Spirit, apparently it's getting ugly right now with a few senior CAs that complained about the ability to pick up open time out of base at FLL. They were doing it in other bases but apparently felt butthurt when other pilots did it to FLL. In any case, there was some obscure part of the contract about pickup opentime within 48 hrs that the company never enforced (or never knew about) but now they are clamping down hard on that portion of the contract. Supposedly, it's really limiting pilots' ability to add/swap with open time within 48 hrs. Lotta guys a little ticked off right now.

Are those called rigs?

They have them but what Spirit has is called a 'transition conflict'.

They do line building so if you bid the last 6 days of the bid period to work and then bid the first 6 days of the bid period to work, they have to drop either or of those six days block and pay protect the pilot. You then can go in pick up (usually the trip you were awarded that was dropped at premium pay as they are short staffed during that time period) a trip and get paid for that trip in addition to the trip you dropped. Usually, you are getting paid like you flew three trips, hence why the pay rate can be multiplied by quite a bit.......

Well if you want to get into the nitty gritty that'd be 27k. I'm a group 1 captain and I'm here to steal all the group 2 jobs!![emoji33]

I should post the photo I took in DAL of the USAirways pilots looking like slobs and the Spirit crew sharp. Just because it's not a legacy doesn't mean the crews are unprofessional.

And remember that pay rates were negotiated in 2010 when the peer set included some awful A320 rates such as legacy CA's topping out at around $126/hr. Now that they finally got a raise their contribution to the peer set will be better for the NK pilots as they enter negotiations this year.

As much as I rag on the DL "pompous" pilot group mentality I 100% agree with their corporate culture and mentality.

They're striving for a premium product and in turn pay their employees a premium wage. They in turn get the best talent out there.

If you want to look like crap, not wear a hat, throw on a clip on tie and wear shoes that are 5 years old having gone without a single shoe shine go for it, but you're going to work at a place like Allegiant or Spirit and as such your wages will reflect that.

Guys who piss and moan about having to button up a coat are completely missing the point of what the premium carriers are doing. If you want premium wages you're going to have to put effort into the job and looking sharp is part of that.

I totally was behind what AA was going for as far as the uniform goes, unfortunately we have too many guys who just don't care, and the company realized that. This is why Delta will continue to kick everyone's ass.
I thought that uniform looked bad. Never saw it in person. It looks dated to me.

That being said I always shine my boots and dry clean everything and iron and statch. I look sharp. Just don't want to look sharp in a metro sexual leather Vespa jacket.
