American Pilots Hate New Uniform

As much as I rag on the DL "pompous" pilot group mentality I 100% agree with their corporate culture and mentality.

They're striving for a premium product and in turn pay their employees a premium wage. They in turn get the best talent out there.

If you want to look like crap, not wear a hat, throw on a clip on tie and wear shoes that are 5 years old having gone without a single shoe shine go for it, but you're going to work at a place like Allegiant or Spirit and as such your wages will reflect that.

Guys who piss and moan about having to button up a coat are completely missing the point of what the premium carriers are doing. If you want premium wages you're going to have to put effort into the job and looking sharp is part of that.

I totally was behind what AA was going for as far as the uniform goes, unfortunately we have too many guys who just don't care, and the company realized that. This is why Delta will continue to kick everyone's ass.

I think there is a lot of confusion between looking good and getting paid well. If you think Parker is going to pay a sharp looking pilot group more... I don't know what to tell you.
@ATN_Pilot you should go to work for DL. I think your beliefs are in line with the group there. I would never want to work there. I'm comfortable and happy in my (buttoned up/clean/pressed) SB uniform. Enough about the uniform. It's a uniform. I'm very interested to see the DL negotiations. Hopefully we'll be in the same place when we also put the BK and merger behind us.
Best of luck!
Get those hourly rates up @Derg. We are tired of doing the heavy lifting ;)

I can't speak for Allegiant, but Spirit folks are probably making more than you thanks to their fantastic work rules.

I hate it because flight attendants are always squinting at your ID badge to see if
Or every time you walk by someone in the express terminal in Clt and Phl they're staring at your badge to see if it starts with JS or EN. The first clue should be when you aren't lugging a flight kit around.

There are more important things to worry about that whole situation than over uniforms. For instance a PSA rampers kids have the same birding priority as a 777 captain. That's not right, that pisses me off

Yep, thanks apa.
They really earned that 4 grand steak dinner. BTW how can dinner for 9 cost 4 grand?

No I am talking about Spirit and their work rules vastly increasing their pilot's pay stubs even though their flat out pay rates are low.

I've spent a hell of a lot of time in the ATL airport. A sloppy DAL pilot is an extreme rarity. I don't know if that's because the company drills it into them that professionalism is important, or if their personality tests somehow screen for that quality, or if it's just because it's a lot harder to look sloppy in a double-breasted blazer and hat. But whatever it is, I see few sloppy DAL pilots, and a whole lot of sloppy other pilots.

In other words, the 'culture'!

I find it hard to believe a 2nd year spirit f/o can make 14k a month consistently. I know we're seriously lacking in work rules but we can still make money if we want. Not knocking spirit they've got some great work rules, just stating facts.

That's 195 credit hours. Those are excellent work rules. Hang on to that!!

Someone just pointed out the other day that it's time to unscrew the hook off my bag as I don't need it for flight cases anymore.....
