American Pilots Hate New Uniform

Yeah, you're right, professionalism is just so 1950.

I disagree. Professionalism is the responsibility of the pilot. I have seen single breasted guys wearing a crisp uniform correctly that looked far better than a slobby DL guy in his DB. It's the pilot not the uniform my man.

I've spent a hell of a lot of time in the ATL airport. A sloppy DAL pilot is an extreme rarity. I don't know if that's because the company drills it into them that professionalism is important, or if their personality tests somehow screen for that quality, or if it's just because it's a lot harder to look sloppy in a double-breasted blazer and hat. But whatever it is, I see few sloppy DAL pilots, and a whole lot of sloppy other pilots.

Ego mainly, quality control as well. Additionally it's just nice to know who is who. Practically, should a guy flying 6 legs in a dash 8 have to wear the same monkey suit as a 30 year captain (or FO in our case) flying an a330 one leg to London? But mainly ego.

If the paint scheme is the same on the outside, the uniforms ought to be the same too.

Same brand, right?

Quality control is obtained by not outsourcing half of it in the first place.

I think we can all agree that once the decision to outsource is made, kiss quality control goodbye for the most part. Uniforms are chicken-poop compared to the performance of the operation from there on out.
