As much as I rag on the DL "pompous" pilot group mentality I 100% agree with their corporate culture and mentality.
They're striving for a premium product and in turn pay their employees a premium wage. They in turn get the best talent out there.
If you want to look like crap, not wear a hat, throw on a clip on tie and wear shoes that are 5 years old having gone without a single shoe shine go for it, but you're going to work at a place like Allegiant or Spirit and as such your wages will reflect that.
Guys who piss and moan about having to button up a coat are completely missing the point of what the premium carriers are doing. If you want premium wages you're going to have to put effort into the job and looking sharp is part of that.
I totally was behind what AA was going for as far as the uniform goes, unfortunately we have too many guys who just don't care, and the company realized that. This is why Delta will continue to kick everyone's ass.
