Aircraft Sounds, your favorite

Honeywell 36-150X APU startup, because it means a Citation X is about to start. Which is the best part of course.

I don't have a favorite just yet, but I can certainly tell you all that I have a worst. The worst is the Beechjet 400 with the Eclipse 500 right behind it. Freaking high pitched and extremely loud.

So the Eclipse is back in town?

My favorite sound: The sound of the Lycoming IO-360L2A in a 172SP starting up as you pass through about 1500 AGL.

The sound of a twin bitch coming to life on a very cold day.
First the starter followed by a couple over-eager jugs. Then the other jugs giving up and eventually becoming part of the team.

Hey man, I can point out the IAE, the GE and the Pratt!

If you want to retain your anet geekdom, how would you tell on the 757/767 EICAS if you've got GE's or Pratts?

Ooh, ooh, pick me! I know! I know! :D

Lol, I've been de-throned, bro. You'd have to ask my successor coa787. Trust me he'll know!

You don't know? :)

I "owe" him a trans-Atlantic planning chart and I hven't seen him around much since!

I didn't forget.

anyone who mentioned anything OTHER than a radial engine, you FAIL this thread.

What is a PTU?

I assume he means Power Transfer Unit. The C-5 has three of them--essentially a motor/pump used as a backup way to pressurize a hydraulic system using pressure from an adjacent system. The 2-3 PTU on Fred makes a distinct sound when you turn it on as it momentarily cavitates.

I like the 757, the whine as it comes towards you, and the roar as it goes by.

I also really love listening to the Stearman.

speaking of aircraft sounds, whats the OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD whine on A320 series aircraft that can be heard before startup and also after shutdown... sounds like a LOUD whine/pump type sound....

Ya those are nice.

I was standing about 50 feet off of the runway when a guy was practicing short field takeoffs where I work one day.

I think a good heart is required to stand that close. :p
