Aircraft Sounds, your favorite

Mine= The sound of a 737-400's CFM Turbofans making that howling noise while slightly throttling up for taxiing.

That's my favorite.

Also, the sound of turbofans spooling down to flight idle.

The sound of 737 flaps extending.

Any prob doing a feathering check.

The sounds made by an E145 when you turn the batteries on.

The sound of any turbine engine at light-off.

That's enough for now, I guess . . .

anyone who mentioned anything OTHER than a radial engine, you FAIL this thread.

me personally, double wasp or vedeneyev M14...tough choice....

Interesting post, and I certainly agree with your assessment - except my favorite still remains the whistle that a Corsair makes in a dive - so, not a radial engine sound, but created by a radial powered airplane.

It is also interesting that an engine can be on different airframes and sound different - sometimes it is subtle, sometimes not. A Wright R-975 will sound different on a Stinson Reliant than it does on a Cabin Waco in different parts of flight (take off, flyby, etc). An R-985 sounds different on a Howard DGA than it does on a Staggerwing or BT-13. The Vedeneyev M-14 always sounded similar to an R-2800 if the Pratt was on a Bearcat - kind of a staccato bark to go along with the rumble. Either way - good show on your post.

I love the background sound you hear whenever a Mad Dog pilot keys the mic.

whhhhhhhhhrrrrrr...Uhh Justice 315 ready to taxi...whhhhrrrrrr
