XJT AIP

Easy solution: 170/175/190/195/700/900s at Mainline.

Will we ever see it though? Who knows.....

Anecdotally Mesa has not had muck problem staffing their current classes, ditto PSA, but that's only Internet (read: APC) rumor. PSA has the better pay scales of the three, even given a 4 year cap on FO pay. If they keep staffing I'd be really curious to see how many people hired post contract even see the 4th year in the right seat.
That is because they haven't received any aircraft yet. PSA only needs to hire 6-8 people a month right now.

APC shows Mesa at 50 but that doesn't mean they are getting that many. Considering their known hiring habits I am willing to bet they will have other issues to contend with other than attrition and doubling their fleet.

Exactly my point. Can they staff that? I find it unlikely. RAH already can't staff their 175s and Q400s. PSA and Mesa will be in for a ride when they can't staff their new 76 seat jets.

I could be wrong but I don't see a future where any regional can hire enough to fill classes.

Isn't the deal that only one plane is required to be on property? So basically, now that PSA has set the bar, mainline will shop around to see who else will work for cheap. I imagine they'll only give PSA and Mesa as many aircraft as they can staff.

I'd likely leave the industry before I'd ever go to a regional. Freight flying is a dog eat dog world and even it is nothing like this!
That would be because pay scales have been frozen for over ten years where you work. They get their concessions just by letting inflation do its work.

RAH will just shutdown CHQ to staff their flying as 50 seaters were going away anyways, don't generate as much profit and than they can get rid of an entire certificate meaning less cost. Most staffing will come from places like CA, GL and AW (this one could go either way) shutting down and the net decrease of 50 seaters being replaced by 70 seaters at places like Skywest and Expressjet with their combined total of 357 145/200's.

190's are already at mainline. (US Airways/American and JetBlue).

The big difference with freight flying such as with FedEx is the fact the freight being moved is FedEx freight in FedEx aircraft including the feeder aircraft. FedEx also makes an effort to equalize lift capacity among all of the various FedEx feeders using FedEx owned aircraft!

Not necessarily. I fly freight for FedEx and I don't fly a FedEx owned aircraft.

I believe I said FedEx owned aircraft at a FedEx feeder not an outside contractor in which FedEx could care less about! We have the same situation here at mainline as well in which an outside contractor is allowed to carry so much after FedEx aircraft has carried their lift capacity.

ERJ FOs are making bank huh?

That's impressive. Nice line bidding system, vote yes and you boys can keep it and enjoy the efficiency and awesome premium pay.

I wouldn't be surprised if more (L)XJT'rs vote yes just for the sheer fact of keeping a highly lucrative scheduling system.

Then again, what am I sayin...you guys get to keep it even if you say no. Schweeeeeeeeet!!

We don't talk in hours here, and frankly I never know how many trips "6 billion hours of open time!!!" are.

We just talk about the number of open trips.

Although the number of trips number looks mo'better to the pilots, the reality is the airlines staffs off of block hours and that's the important number to know.

I'm aware that we staff on block hours; the angry German kid told me.

But there's no way for us to see how many block hours are in open time, at least not that I'm aware of. I can tell you this, though; there are so many trips that my browser won't actually load the open time page if I select all the bases.

I foresee some cancellations in XJT 's future
