XJT AIP

They might not have that college degree, older, and kids. They would rather keep QOL and save the college fund for the kids. I know someone at JC basically in that same situation.

Their choice. I do know he sees the larger picture though so he does what he can to improve life at his regional.

Of course it is their choice, but what am I supposed to do? Feel sorry for them when they are looking to get their contract gutted? I heard A LOT from some of your coworkers on how I was foolish to stay at Colgan (and not get involved with the ALPA drive there), I need to come to your place, get jet time, upgrade quickly with the branded flying, and move on. Every time, I told them no, and that they better not make their bed with your company due to the way the regionals business model is. A lot did make their bed with your company and now they are scrambling to make amends for their errors.

Even though they were errors they made, the information was out there for years on here and elsewhere on how it is imperative one moves up the totem pole and not settle for a regional. By them becoming comfortable they didn't listen to the (FREE!) advice and mentorship on here. Why should I feel sorry for them for not listening?

So now we're talking about Screaming_Emu? Lets stick to the subject.....A person not moving on for whatever reason.....And your 'no sympathy'.....

Ok..

Please tell me what that shows about this person based on ONE statement? All it shows is....'He hasn't applied elsewhere'.....You're making assumptions again....

If you want to get out, you need to apply places, correct? As soon as I met the minimums at airlines I wanted to work for, I applied. Did I do that on my own? No, others on here suggested that it is important for one to do so to show the recruiters you have a desire to work at a place. Not making an assumptions here.

Didn't mean to cause a fuss. I'll clear the air by saying all assumptions are correct :). Mid to late 30's, lots of complaining, half brain dead.

See statement below......

That MAY be true...But all we know from mastermags post is....."I am flying with a 6-yr reserve CA..." Nothing more, mothing less....

Now if this person were bitching and moaning and not making an effort, then I would agree.... F' him.....

6 year Reserve Captain? As in he's been on reserve for 6 years right? Because I've been here 6 years and no upgrade in sight. Even Eagle upgrades have broken into 2007 DOHs

Yeah, 6 years on reserve. Feb 2007 hire myself. The last upgrade award is 1 or 2 classes ahead of me and from what I've heard has been postponed due to lack of FO's.

I've resigned myself to never upgrading. With every single major hiring right now I moved up a grand total of 1 seniority number this month. One. That makes 52 numbers since last December. How many planes are we losing next year? How many pilots per plane is that? Yeah, great.

I guess what is the most frustrating thing is that most of the guys I fly with are lifers (read future unemployed pilots) or holding out for big D. I know several guys that have turned down jobs with Jetblue, U.S. Airways etc because they're waiting on Delta to call. Why? "Oh, I have a house in Atlanta," or "I don't want to commute to reserve in New York." Seriously, you're waiting on Delta because you don't want to commute to New York? I have a buddy who turned down a job with JB a few years ago to wait for Delta and recently interviewed. Guess what.... he got turned down. Plan B?

Do you have your application in everywhere, even if you don't meet the PIC requirement? We've very rapidly moved from a time where they said you needed 1000 PIC but it took much, much more to get a call to a time where PIC doesn't matter so much. Also, even for places that do track the PIC number, they also look at how long you've been applying for. If your app is in the system for 3 years and THEN you get the PIC number box checked, you look that much more attractive to them than the guy who is just filling out his application for the first time.

I've had my application in everywhere since the time my FO ATP ride was accomplished. I update every week when I finish a trip.

To answer your question, the pairings were about as productive as they could be given the crap handed down by Delta. I talked with the pairing guys all the time, and the days of pure pairing construction went away in like 2006-2007 when Delta started mixing in all the regionals to prevent one carrier from having the ability to screw them ala Comair.

Actually it was in IAD so the United side. Either way, I guess we are at the mercy of the mainline carrier when it comes to pairing construction then huh? How is San Juan anyway?

Yes, there are a select few that are getting hired with no or very little PIC time, however, the majority of guys that I know of that had or have upcoming interviews, are a) very well connected, b) been with Company a long time and several years as PIC, or c) military background.

Right now, seems like a lot of military guys are getting snatched up by several airlines, followed by checkairman, chief pilot background type of people.

Absolutely! I've got one tug on the line and I'm crossing both fingers really hard. Otherwise I'm working on networking my brains out because I feel that in the future, those who truly want the jobs will get the jobs (the future being in the next 5 years, not necessarily next week.)

San Juan is great. We have a ton of overnights there due to the no base thing. The long overnight is a beachfront resort. It's a good break this time of year.

I have found the IAD lines to be rather productive, but I'm not sure if that's a function of my relative seniority or if they have actually improved much

Sounds like a similar person I know. The person I know also turned down JB and one of his big connections at DL advises that interview prep is unnecessary. Person failed the panel.

Personally I am not going to chance a multi million dollar career being too cheap to spend $375

I'm not sure if its the same guy. My guy doesn't seem like the type to waltz in unprepared and it's not the story I received, but who knows what really went down.

That's a bummer. I knew someone who turned down JB. He interviewed the same day I did. We all have to make our own choices, and then live with them.

JB is a good fit for me, and I'm thinking of deleting my apps at DL and UA. My thought at the time was get out of XJT at all costs, and I could wait for DL. But now I'm happy, and don't want to be at the bottom of those huge lists.

I hope it works out for your buddy.
