FO’s buy the four pack of black pants at Costco.

I wait until they are on blue light special at KMart

Grandpa - beer fridge stocked with Hams, Old Milwaukee, Strohs, or whatever else was on sale. Drive 30 minutes to Riverside, MO to the discount cigarette place to save $3 on Winstons. Go out to eat at all you can eat places.

Also Grandpa - Let's go to the backyard hangar after dinner and go fly the (insert Chief/one of the Wacos/Howard DGA/Monoprep/Interstate Cadet/Bellanca Cruisemaster/Maule).

And his friends and 1950's-80's "Golden Age of Airline pilots" were no different. A strange breed.

About the same here at my location, except add Busch Light to the beer, and driving 25 minutes to the Indian reservation because cigarette have no taxes there, and driving 15 miles out of the way to save 5 cents a gallon on gas jn a car that gets 12 miles per gallon.

Actually, statistically, the highest number of uniform violations appear to be some of the newer pilots — there's a certain level of "it's not a crime if I'm not caught" going on, generationally.
Yeah, I can't figure out how this became a thing in the last 10 years or so. Every new/junior FO posting on social media about buying off-brand pants, etc. Wear what the company asks you to wear. This isn't a fashion show! Our uniforms basically haven't changed since PanAm invented them in the 1930s (my kingdom for a white hat!).

And don't get me started on the TwinHill debacle at AA a few years back! I get it, you like wearing "yoga pants" to work. Well guess what. It's harming a lot of us and they're prohibited, but you do you Scooter and the rest of us will like and subscribe.

And for f-sakes! Buy a damn uniform shirt that fits!!! Quit buying one 3 sizes too small! I keep wanting to walk up to my LEC Chair and hand him a $10 and apologize that he can't buy clothes that fit an tell him that I hope this helps.

*walks away muttering about people being on his lawn*

I remember the MD-11 doing its flight tests at MD’s Yuma test facility in ‘90. Was cool to see it flying in and out of there.
Whichever one it was, I probably flew it. We had the prototypes in service here...although I believe they're in VCV right now.

Rolling her on and seeing a good score come out of the printer after engine shutdown was a great sense of accomplishment. I still have the printout from my last MD-11 landing on my fridge...1.13Gs!
Lol….I forgot about the printer scores. Always objective and good for a free beer at dinner! 😁

You guys are making me miss the MD-11… That and the MD-10-30 were great airplanes.

The topic doesnt really come up, but I dont think ive worked with anyone like described in the OP>

I came across a "just planes" video on youtube the other day from the 90's and I thought, no wonder I fell in love with aviation back then. So many different airlines, so much variety in the type of planes, turbo props, black smoke pouring out of the engines on final, the noise, the shinny bare metal liveries. All of it. Civilian passenger aviation was always what I wanted to do, and I still enjoy it for the most part today. From an avgeek perspective, the airlines have gotten fewer, the planes quieter, the variety nonexistent and isnt as enjoyable to me anymore, but Ill still look up. Flying from "Hub city International to Mid Size Midwest Airport" really doesnt do anything for me anymore, but im not bidding #1 yet (or ever). There's enough variety in the flying we do on my aircraft that you can keep updating your "favorite overnight" often.

If for absolutely no other reason, you get to travel to various places and have no responsibilities once you get there and get paid nicely for it. That is amazing. I like 2 and 3 days trips mainly and plug in holes in the schedule with a 1 day trip.

Airline Videos Live on YouTube is crushing in that space. It’s fun to was as an amateur and it’s a lot of fun to have on in the background when you’re getting work done: AIRLINE VIDEOS

Tell ‘em when you’re flying into LAX and there are a whole host of people that will take amazing video of your aircraft.

I watched that channel a lot going through new hire training. It was great! I have actually been on it a few times.

They happened to be filming in JFK when I came in from (I forget) in the 76-4 some months ago. It was lousy quality video but it was still cool to see.

I've seen them taping that from the hill in El Segundo. I love going by there when I can. Also love LAX. My favorite airport. I used to park a Convair 640 at the Imperial Terminal back in 88 and 89. Mail contract to LAS and back every night. I was a 28 year old Convair Capt. Wish I had taken more pics. Didn't realize at the time how cool it was.

It also might be that weird phase that some spouses go through as social media got more prevalent.

"OMG YOU SPENT $80 ON DINNER IN BOSTON! Jimmy the regional captain packs his food for six days while carying a caravan of bags and looking for ice like the travelers looked for food in Cormac MacCarthy's 'The Road'r" just to avoid the "You know, a McDonalds #2 will run you $18 in the real world and I have a medical next month" conversation.

I guess I am fortunate to not have married that woman :) More like I trip, fall, and break my ribs, while trying to climb over all the amazon boxes piled up on the doorstep of • she ordered while I was gone. In return she does not complain about my layover expenses. Though to be fair, she has her own money too.
