UPS A300 down at Birmingham AL

Approach plates, whether government or Jeppesen, are created from FAA Form 8260-10, which is the official instrument approach procedure created pursuant to Part 97.

The following is the link to the 8260 form for the KBHM RNAV 18 http://aeronav.faa.gov/acifp/ndbr/2011100326949301001-BHM-NDBR/AL_BIRMINGHAM_RG18_BHM.pdf

Notice that there is no prohibition for conducting this approach at night, nor is there any difference in minimums for day vs night

Last year the approach was amended to prohibit this approach at night when the VGSI is inoperative, http://aeronav.faa.gov/acifp/ndbr/2011100326949301001-BHM-NDBR/P-NOTAM_AL_BIRMINGHAM_1-3759_BHM.pdf

When Jeppesen revised the plate they made a mistake. The government plate is correct.

If you ever have a question about an approach, check the FAA database and look up the 8260-10. It is located at https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/procedures/

What you are looking for the are the IFP documents for the airport.

...you wouldn't happen to have a cool callsign like "FLIGHT CHECK," would you?

The wedgie suit has no purpose in FW ops. They keep you hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

But if you could see all the red carpets and dewey-eyed-stares I get at Podunk Regional Health Center at 3am, you'd understand that the Glamor is still there! All I'm missing is a Helmet, and I'd take one of them toothless meth addicts home with me every time! Totally worth swamp-ass and its attendant misery!

That's because they think you're a helicopter pilot. ;)

How do company-specific procedures work (honest question)? I used to fly with dozens of jepp charts that I've never seen government plates for.

When I wrote that they don't create anything, I meant they don't create any of the data for charting. They don't go out and survey anything. They take data from countries AIPs translate any writing and draft it in Jepp format, so it reads the same for any country.

I'm not entirely sure who generates the data for company specific procedures and charts, but when I worked a Jepp a long long time ago, we'd get the data the same as any other chart and draft it how the company wanted them tailored.

I didn't know you were in the Civil Air Patrol.

I'm a Generalismo in the CAP. It's no big deal, just doing my small, quiet part for the Empire, Lord Vader!

PS. I like you Longstreet quote, but I think I can beat it with Gen. Forrest to Gen. Bragg

"I have stood your meanness as long as I intend to. You have played the part of a damned scoundrel, and are a coward, and if you were any part of a man I would slap your jaws and force you to resent it. You may as well not issue any orders to me, for I will not obey them, and I will hold you personally responsible for any further indignities you endeavor to inflict upon me... and I say to you that if you ever again try to interfere with me or cross my path it will be at the peril of you life"

To his Commanding General, no less! All that is Man (personal politics notwithstanding)

I did 't realize the CAP was around during the War Between the States. Learn something new every day.

Longstreet's advance around the right at Gettysburg was actually held up by a couple of self-impressed pedobear losers marching some kids around in pseudo-military uniforms, looking for aircraft tail numbers. Changed the course of our nation's history, the CAP. If not the World's. Little known fact.

Seriously, look it up.

Back in the day, we had to wait months, sometimes even YEARS before the NTSB would give out these details. I'm sure our grandchildren will just be able to stream the accidents live from the cockpit cams.

As bad as this might sound but it almost seems like they have been enjoying the attention lately.
