SU-27 for sale on Controller

He threatened to sue you?

As in "A'hmo SOO!" ??

What a candyass! You don't threaten to sue, you have a process server bring your intended victim legal documents!

I've been threatened to be sued on a number of occasions. I just laugh some anyone emails me that stuff.

Oh yeah, he had our "internet" names listed on his blog for months as part of his lawsuit. Oh yeah, at one point he emailed the name of his lawyer and some details. One of the admins at aw contacted the lawyer and the lawyer had never heard of him lol. He later had some reservisit draft up a letter attempting to use the military to cease our claim that he was a fake. Ended up the reservisit was a nephew and once faced with the facts, he backed off. This loser would not give up...his ego could not let it go that outed him as a fake. This lasted for like two years.

Good god. That's embarrassing as a man. Hell, as a sentient human!

That stuff is just plain sad. It reminds me of a song by a band called SMO that was around Athens and Auburn in the late 90's. The song was called Storyteller and one of the lines went like this:

"I've always wondered how you met the president that day,
Oh, that's right, your dad is undercover C-I-A.

Your story impressed us,
He might arrest us,

So, we clam up and listen to everything you say..."

Anyone remember that kid who flew a C150 into the side of a building and destroyed a fax machine? I remember before he did that he had joined both airliners.net and jetphotos.net and pretended to be a US 737-400 pilot. The fact that he said -400 instead of just 737 pilot clued some people in and I believe he was banned off at least airliners.net, maybe jetphotos too. He was obviously unhappy, pretty sad stuff.

Another guy was busted pretending to be an F-15E driver.

Is this why I was greeted with such skepticism on AW when I first showed up? I got called a fake quite a lot there in the beginning until I talked with HeyJoe personally on the phone.

All of which I thought was pretty funny since I was a member on AW (with a different login name) right when the forum started...and I was an SUPT student (or recently winged grad, I don't remember exactly.

As a side, I busted a fake F-15E pilot over on militaryphotos.net. An acquaintance from another aviation forum alerted me to it, and asked me to come on over and straighten things out. After the typical denials, counter-accusations, etc, it turns out the phoney was a ROTC cadet. I took a different route, and kept in contact with this particular cadet after the 'unveiling' to try and give him a little mentorship. I haven't talked to him in probably a year, but we talked quite a bit afterward. Made me feel like it had a more positive outcome than just kicking a guy in the nuts for being an online fake.

There was a dude on another forum who was trying to pass himself off as a C-141 pilot.....early 2000's timeframe. He was outed by a buddy of mine as a fake. But my question was (and no disrespect meant towards the 141), but why try to fake as a MAC/AMC heavy driver? More believeability? Maybe just trying to be different from the "standard" F-14/F-16 driver fake persona.

:D

I don't even remember making the post that I made on that flight sim website, I guess it was my one and only posting. Had to stand up for Mike D!!

C-141? If it was a C-5, then that would be impressive. ;)

Yeah, I remember you provided me some much appreciated backup!

I think so and some thought it was that guy coming back under a different IP user address. I wouldn't care so much I don't think except for the skeeterman episode in which all the threats were repeated over the years. Matter of fact, his name now resides in the urban dictionary :)

You have no idea how many times I've written responses to this comment, only to delete them and start over.

I originally went with the sarcasm response ('since you are apparently an expert on fighter aviation based on what you've read at the AOPA forum...'), but then changed it to the wise old man advice ('well, I generally listen to people who have 10x my total time when they are trying to explain something') and subsequently to the criticism ('WTF does anything I wrote have anything to do with who is the better pilot??').

But, I erased all of those responses because none of them really captured what I would actually explain to you if we were discussing this in person. In addition, they were a little disrespectful, and as much as I wanted to match your fire with my fire, that just isn't needed among pilots with common goals and common interests.

Instead, I'll simply say this: This is an area I have a pretty decent amount of experience in, so I was attempting to explain some of the misunderstood nuances of a hypothetical scenario that you brought up and subsequently tried to argue.

I try to keep my comments within the realm of things I actually know about. Next time anyone catches me pontificating about some subject they are actually experienced in, and I'm wrong, I expect them to not only call me out on it, but also educate me on what was incorrect.

Isn't that why we're all here? To exchange information and ideas among people with common interests and common goals?

As a lurker and only part time poster when I feel I have valuable information to add I wanted to offer another view. The way I view threads is just like a large group of people talking in a circle about a given subject. There are usually a couple of people who do all the talking and a few who add some quips then a few who listen intently. I fall into the latter, and just because KSU thought that he was being all high and mighty, I appreciated the information and enjoy reading the information. I won't ask for specifics, but if it's tehre I will read it.

Thank you Hacker for explaining something in depth and with details to make it more clear, not something that I would have thought about unless you had posted it.

Also thank you for not going with the kick to the groin option. As a long time lurker part time poster I have been seeing more of it and it's getting a little old.

Speaking of fake servicemen, one dude recently got arrested by the Feds on a "stolen valor" charge.

Fake veteran faces 'stolen valor' charge
CNN said:
Richard Strandlof said he survived the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon. He said he survived again when a roadside bomb went off in Iraq, killing four fellow Marines. He'd point to his head and tell people he had a metal plate, collateral damage from the explosion.
<!--endclickprintexclude-->None of it was true. On Friday, the FBI arrested him on the rare charge of "stolen valor."
As far as civilians trying to teach tactics to military personnel, Heinlein's idea of requiring military service as a condition of citizenship looks more and more attractive.
