SU-27 for sale on Controller

You have no idea how many times I've written responses to this comment, only to delete them and start over.

I originally went with the sarcasm response ('since you are apparently an expert on fighter aviation based on what you've read at the AOPA forum...'), but then changed it to the wise old man advice ('well, I generally listen to people who have 10x my total time when they are trying to explain something') and subsequently to the criticism ('WTF does anything I wrote have anything to do with who is the better pilot??').

But, I erased all of those responses because none of them really captured what I would actually explain to you if we were discussing this in person. In addition, they were a little disrespectful, and as much as I wanted to match your fire with my fire, that just isn't needed among pilots with common goals and common interests.

Instead, I'll simply say this: This is an area I have a pretty decent amount of experience in, so I was attempting to explain some of the misunderstood nuances of a hypothetical scenario that you brought up and subsequently tried to argue.

I try to keep my comments within the realm of things I actually know about. Next time anyone catches me pontificating about some subject they are actually experienced in, and I'm wrong, I expect them to not only call me out on it, but also educate me on what was incorrect.

Isn't that why we're all here? To exchange information and ideas among people with common interests and common goals?

Very nicely done.

, you said nothing wrong. You're the SME on this site when it comes to this stuff. If folks can't handle it, to damn bad.

Yeah, but a good slam dunking and kick in the ass is a worthwhile teaching tool too......

:)

I get it, your a fighter pilot, and are better flying that the rest of us. Its a freaking hypothetical situation. Chill out Mavrick.

You just pissed away most of whatever credibility you had on this board. Meanwhile, for taking the time to try to educate you Hacker has monumentally increased his.

When an actual USAF fighter pilot tells you something about fighters, you should shut up and listen. If you still don't understand, then you ASK the expert for more clarification. That's what this board is about, aviators educating each other. And the longer you are in aviation the more you will learn how much you don't know.

Mike, do you remember the time Alex got you to help out a fake F-16 pilot on some flight sim board, and they all claimed YOU were the fraud? I still get a kick about that.

LOL, yeah! That was after TomCatter. The guy was a CAP dude who was posing as a Hill-based F-16 pilot. I caught numerous errors in his story, and in fact asked if he knew guys that I knew who were currently in the squadron he was claiming to be a part of. He couldn't answer any of them, nor answer questions about recent events that had just occurred in the unit.

All the flight-sim idiots couldn't accept that this guy was possibly a fraud, since he was so prominient on the board and was one of its senior members.

Clowns..

Lol, I'd forgotten about that one partner! Btw, that was some darn good BBQ in Arlington!

Yall got a link for that one? Sounds immensely entertaining.

CK, you the man for finding those! I couldnt even remember where to look for them.

TomCatter's thread are still available here, I believe.

Funny you mention this. Over at www.airwarriors.com we have had a few guys try to pass off as aviators. One's name was skeeterman who tried to pass off as a former Korean War Naval Aviator. He was caught in many lies then threatened many of us with lawsuits. I had numerous emails full of threats....I of course just continued to damage his reputation as much as I could. He now resides on a loon leftist site playing an anti-government crusader (anti-conservative really) with a combat background. He, like many other fakes, is listed on www.pownetwork.org and you can see many of his posts that were saved on there. That site outs military fakes in all walks of life.

Another guy was busted pretending to be an F-15E driver. I busted a guy on a corvette forum pretending to be an F-16 driver and he was offering advice to a few guys who were looking to be air force pilots. On another car forum, I busted a guy who was pretending to be a former B-52 driver. The issue with this guy was that he helped start the site and was well respected. He started a thread about veterans who have seen combat and had this story about ejecting from a B-52 shot down in the first Gulf War. Of course I'm an avid aviation historian and knew off the bat his story was bogus. Once he was ousted, I was banned from the site, folks attacked me for bringing him down, etc. What really blew me away was this guy was in the Air Force Reserves and an full bird colonel to boot!! He eventually came out with the truth and yet some folks were saying it's okay, everybody lies.

One thing about non aviators pretending to be military aviators is the lingo. They can search the net, read books and magazine but when they talk, certain things don't sound right. I caught the guy attempting to be a Viper driver the moment he said he flew the F-16 Fighting Falcon. In the scheme of things, it isn't a huge deal but IMO, you don't get to pretend to be something you're not when you haven't experienced the blood, sweat and tears of the military. Meaning, the training itself is an experience, the time away from home, the combat time for some (guys like Hacker or Mike D who flew tactical jets), the loss of friends, etc. The Reserve Colonel was oh so close to being on the POW network and that's when he backed down...he stuck to his story until that point.

That's a big thing.....the lingo. They generally don't use it, but if they do, it's not in correct context...just comes across as odd and easy for us to catch.

Like your last few sentences say here, that's what I tried to get across to the flight sim clowns with my initial post in the last thread that CK put up of that site.

Funny thing about credibility. Everyone wants it even if they have to lie to get it. I recently saw a stat (credible or not I don't know) that said in the last census more than 13.9 million claimed to be Vietnam vets. Interesting in that only 2.7 million served... or about 4 out of 5 claiming to be Vietnam Vets AIN'T. Of the 2.7 million who served, reportedly only about 850,000 remain.

I don't know man, I enjoy learning about this stuff.

I like the unique opportunity we have in this thread to ask some real-life fighter pilots questions.

Skeeterman got caught when he didn't understand the term boat in Navy lingo. As aviators, we call it a boat, we land on that boat. He also posted generic pics and his story would change from time to time. Once he was outed it should have been it but when he started with the threats, that pissed me off. He even created a blog with his made up stories along with the continued threat to sue a bunch of us. Once in a great while I'd get his standard email that a lawsuit was coming and I would give him my standard reply....bring it. Stop wasting time with threats and just do it. Never happened of course. Lets see, a liar angry about being found out he's a liar and of course he's going to sue folks for outing him as a liar and fake.

He threatened to sue you?

As in "A'hmo SOO!" ??

What a candyass! You don't threaten to sue, you have a process server bring your intended victim legal documents!

I've been threatened to be sued on a number of occasions. I just laugh some anyone emails me that stuff.
