SU-27 for sale on Controller

OMG!! LOL!!! :laff::rotfl::yup: I had no idea it was looked down upon. As a civilian, I kinda liked it (then again I'm a fan of Lockheed).

Well since this thread is already hijacked, what was wrong with the big giant?

It's not looked down upon. Its just that it had lots of teething problems in its inception with reliability, etc. It's a great and capable airframe, and has really come along in its operational life.

Even today, Fred breaks down alot. For this reason, it has been relegated away to mostly special airlift and never became cost effective enough to be a mainline hauler. The 141 was the workhorse of long haul military airlift longer than any other aircraft.

I will say this though: The galaxy is an amazing massive aircraft.

The 141 was indeed the backbone of the strat airlift fleet. Sad to see their ultimate demise here in AZ of such a great aircraft.

Does the adage still hold true (reliability-wise) that if you need a C-5 for a mission, schedule two?

Two C-5s sitting on the ramp in Ramstein Germany, one is on jackstands the other is not. How come?

They only had one set of jackstands! Oh! I am here all night folks!

Seriously, good plane but just overwhelmingly complex systems and alot of them. My cousin flies them, and I have many old 141 friends that stayed in and are on them now. It is an aircrew dream, unless you want to get home on time:)

Why not upgrade the systems on the C-5 like they've done with the B52 (and Nasa with the Shuttle, or UPS with the DC-8)? Excuse my naivety...

Oh okay! So then maybe Fred would no longer be the moniker if it's successful? ;)
From what limited amount I know, it will take more than new engines.
Isn't one of their problems a result from the a/c constantly squatting, or kneeling or wahtever they call it for loading/unloading.
There was one broke on teh taxiway, yes the taxiway bc there was no where else to put it, right across from our flight line in Iraq that was there for days.
Funny how it doesn't look "too" big from a bit of a distance. But once up on it you can't help but marvel in its sheer size.

edit:not to take sides here or interject myself where not needed, but Hacker props on teh way you handled KC getting pissy with you. I would have probably just spouted off the first thing that popped in my head. Thanks for the explanation as well, fighter top speeds has always been something that I was curious about.
