Southwest tries to redecorate LGA tower

This is as tight as it ever got and only during a valiant but ultimately futile attempt to hit the max authorized altitude

a nasty EDR
I just, you know.... ask the captain before touching it?

Because I didn't know:
  • Eddy Dissipation Rate is an objective, aircraft-independent, universal measure of turbulence based on the rate at which energy dissipates in the atmosphere. EDR is the official ICAO and WMO atmospheric turbulence intensity metric and will have values that range between 0 and 1.
  • When the atmosphere is dissipating energy quickly (i.e the EDR is large), atmospheric turbulence levels are high.”
  • The effect of a particular EDR value on an aircraft will depend on the size (weight) of the aircraft.
Common data sources for EDR assessment is automated ACARS reports from preceeding aircraft in an area. Data is compiled and packaged by IATA's Turbulence Aware effort.

That Honeywell SVS and LCD upgrade is really nice. I wish the 45s that I flew had that.

And yeah, Bombardier put a heck of a wing on that thing. I miss its trailing link landing gear also, and I have since went to the F900 and then the guppy. Sometimes I think the struts are made of concrete in that thing.

Passing PAPG at 49,000 and heading for PAJN. At first glance I figured you’d have to descend steeply, but you’re still 115 nm out, so probably not. I can’t remember: is OWILY an IAF for RWY 8?
OWILY is an IAF for the custom LP+V approach we got in there. I think it got us to 700 or 800 ish on runway 8. I also used to descend pretty steep, planning on like 78/79 until 300 and idle thrust which would give you like 4000 fpm unless you had to burn all the anti ice.

I miss that airplane every time I go to work. The guppy is a little roomier, but we also didn’t fly 6 hour transcons. The vnav is also more sophisticated in the guppy, and overall a little better.

I cant say I really miss the thing but I am nostalgic for it in that it was my first advanced glass airplane.

Thinking back I guess I’m nostalgic for almost everything I’ve flown since I was an instructor. I have a hair over 2000 hours in the Lear 35 and would never want to live with it professionally again but I’d love to take one for a rip around the patch one day. I got to fly a 25 a while back for upset recovery training which was a blast.

If there is anything I miss it’s the Falcon 900 EASy, I found it to be a joy to fly and I was privileged enough to fly it around the world with a bunch of friends from my AirNet days.

I also have an unrestricted BE-300 type and after years of flying as a crew it was fun to get back in the single pilot mindset again.

That's a different HIMS...

Is who gets the flip the seat belt switch really that big of a deal on the airline side? LOL

Generally I pay attention to how the other pilots are treating the FAs. Did they say: “why is the coke machine talking?” Do they seem to be aware and have some empathy for what the FAs are doing? Do they have empathy in general? Mostly I just really care about hurting someone. Getting OJI money and not being at work could be financially devastating for an FA.

Running the seatbelt switch is pretty important and it’s important to communicate with the FAs and let them know what’s coming in terms of rides.

That being said I’m happy to let anyone run the seatbelt sign. It’s great when anyone asks but go ahead and mess with it. If you’re the PM I think it should be your job. It’s not a difficult task. Provided they care about other people.

The fact that guys comfortably say stuff like this speaks volumes. It’s unfortunate these are the clowns that are quick to upgrade.

I agree with you, but I also don't really feel like our ride predictions are anywhere near science. It is fairly straightforward when its predicted to be very crappy, and center says "continuous light to moderate all altitudes" or whatever. When DX files you for FL300 for turbulence and stacks the gas, kinda day. But those other days, where there are just a couple areas predicted along the route, I think it is a coin flip whether or not the location or intensity or even the existence of turbulence, is predicted accurately. Unless you guys have access to a different tool than I do with WSI in that left seat :) I'm all ears if you do. Cant count how many times we are getting the bucking bronco ride and WSI is clear.

I hate to say it, but give me an A350, an ice chest full of beverages, a private toilet and some hot food on demand and flying solo sounds amazing.

I’m not teaching this weekend so i actually have to hold a conversation. “So, uhh, do you like stuff?”

"I love stuff!"

"wanna agree to meet at van time?"
