Skywest Questions

This TA was approved the second SAPA went away from what the majority of pilots wanted by not restricting all first year pilots from voting

I should hope not. I won’t be upgrading until January and will vote accordingly but I hope FOs keep in mind that they’ll be upgrading soon and nothing will have changed for them. This TA quite frankly sucks.

We have reps who voted yes on this TA, then publicly state "it's not good enough for what we deserve". Then why am I looking at this? o_O

I actually think there is some validity to this, though. All they really voted yes was to show it to the pilot group and while the TA is garbage, I do sort of appreciate seeing where we're at.

Can you imagine how horrible the last one must have been for them to not even vote to let us see it?

Based on the voting habits of this group, I don't appreciate sending this through. Patience is key, and we had a huge voice. Hiring is finally becoming a problem and the company knew something had to be done. Unfortunately, now if this goes through I don't think I'll see them at the pay table for years. New hires will flock here thinking we're top dollar. I get where a Rep is coming from to have the entire pilot group on his mind, and not his self. I did vote specifically for certain reps that knew absolutely what the pilots deserved and nothing less (or so their bios told me). When a new rep goes in and gets conned from voting for new hire restrictions and TA's geared to new hires, it's a little confusing and frustrating.

I view this as a patient process. I don't need to see "where their at" on the table. Just present to me a respectable TA and nothing less. Now a lot of us are worried that the silent majority (aka yes on any pay raise, Skywest runs in my blood) will pass this thing and yet again management will be popping champagne. I did hear a rumor weeks ago on how terrible one of the offers was. I didn't really believe it but this TA is actual a few percent up from that offer. Except now they removed all bonuses for me and quarterly for everyone. So I guess the rumor was right. I'd be fine waiting another 6 months of them saying no, put the pressure on the company. Don't resign on us.

SAPA is too spineless to ever think about putting pressure on the company.

SAPA, is the company.

So I did some math for myself. In 2017, I credited about 83 hours per month on average. Taking away the quarterly bonuses that I earned in 2017, it would be a net 4.8% raise for me. I'm on 12th year captain pay. What kind of raises did Endeavor and Republic get?

That's true, and I kind of realized it right after I wrote it. While I was kind of interested to see where we were at, I have 0 confidence that this will be turned down, which is horrible. Having flown with a couple SAPA guys I know that they seem to have the best intentions and really seem to want to help out the pilot group but they really seem outmatched in dealing with the company. I don't know if it's the people that are incapable of making real changes or if it's the system.

Anyway, today I was thinking back to new hire class and remember when someone from the company came into the class telling us about being a partner of choice and how we charge more than other regionals but we can because of the quality that we offer. The company can charge more than others yet can't (won't) pay us the same as others.

it will "pass"....don't you guys not really have a say in it?

I am all in favor of switching to ALPA. Will it solve our problems overnight? Obviously no, but I would feel better to become an ALPA carrier than for us to continue this charade that we have verifiable representation that looks out for our best interests.

You will, immediately, have professional protections-ALPA isn't going to make it rain but it will give you some of the best protection available for the two certificates you must have to practice as a professional aviator.

That is the real value of ALPA.

The ALPA website is being made right now. It needs to be expedited. I just want a legal contract with legal representation. I don't even care if they made it rain. I feel like at this point we'd have a chance to see it pass.

I know a lot of them do have the best interests for us but it's pretty much impossible for them to get anything done against someone who pays them and the legal representation the company has. We are just too large this is a massive conflict of interest. I don't see how it's gone on this long and survived. I wasn't here the last ALPA vote though, so I'm not sure how close or far we were from ALPA.

What are pilots saying about the TA with whom you all have been flying? If one looks online at the FB page, it looks like a resounding NO, but so far I've flown with two persons who think it is a great deal. May the almighty have mercy on our souls.

Last TA was NO on FB but passed.....

My captain was undecided at the start of the trip. By day 3 he realized it was just money moving. Sounds like he's switched to a no vote. Got into an A/C in MSP with every told card saying "vote no". I don't want to get too optimistic. Especially in my base, I'm willing to bet there are more than a few yes voters here.
