Skywest Questions

I really don't have many complaints about this place, overall it's enjoyable. But reeerve could be made so much better with just a few small changes. But I'll continue to hangout in the crashpad over thanksgiving along with the 65 other reserves in MSP who won't be working. Hopefully they can make those changes eventually for the sake of the next incoming group

Yeah I just saw the PBS and it was like 45 or something FO's in MSP on reserve....is movement slowing down?

I don't really know right now. MSP has slowed drastically with the expansion of DTW. I could easily hold a line there right now. But I'm being transferred to where I live next month so I just need to survive these next nine days in the crashpad and then life may get better. I never work in MSP, and neither do my friends here. One has flown two hours this month. If you live here, it's awesome. If not.. it's quite dismal.

You're a few months away, things are going to be different. I know that's not what you want to hear but it's the truth. I've only been here since April and I have learned many lessons about the airlines. The biggest lesson being, life is easier when you don't stress about what's going to happen. I may be forced out of my base in the spring because no one knows what is going to happen to it. But in the mean time I'm not going to sweat it. That's what you should do as well until your times comes around. I can say this with a fair amount of certainty though, DTW, MSP, and ORD are junior on the CRJ. If you move to any of those bases, I don't foresee you having to commute.

How is the health insurance?

Hah...

I'm not impressed with it. Signed up for one of the more basic plans and it's not great. But the top one still didn't make a whole lot of sense for me cost wise, but then again I'm not all that smart about these kinds of things.

What I AM hopeful about is the loss of medical insurance we have enrollment for in January. Looks like a REALLY good deal, we'll need 25% of the pilot group to sign up to actually get it, so about 1,200 pilots. Really hoping it goes through.

That all depends on what you need.

It's okay basic health insurance, there don't seem to be a lot of approved pharmacies around, they want to force you onto their mail order pharmacy, which does actually work okay if you have meds you take regularly, automatic refills have been pretty reliable.

The dental insurance is... Meh and the vision insurance is pretty standard.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the mail order pharmacy business. Basically they won't pay for my stuff anymore if I want to walk down the street and pick up my stuff in person anymore. And the only thing I can get mail ordered is generics, not that it really matters in theory I guess. Just sucks when you're running low and know you aren't going to be home for a couple weeks.

Thanks guys I was just asking for my wife. I never need to go to the doctor. Avoid it like the plague.

I'm also looking at the website, since I've been working on the app. And they say you need to be IFR current. I haven't flown since February. Any issues with this.

Basically the reason my app got rejected from Allegiant. Don't want to have that happen again. So I could hit up a sim session or two before I send the app off.

I wouldn't show up unprepared.

OK lets make this constructive. How should one prepare for the interview?

Read the online gouges, all of them, and from different sites.

Have the diagrams drawn out (electrical and turbine engine and 91.175 listed on blank copy paper before heading in, you may be able to just use those).

Google searching will be your friend here.

You're not reading what he wrote correct. The application won't pull you up if you're not IFR current. So BEEF should go get IFR current. So go get sim current by shooting a few approaches.

Why make this hard on yourself? Don't show up unprepared.

Thanks. I'm out of the country right now and sending in my app before I get home was suggested. This would be a mistake since I need to hit the sim first.

You answer helps ALOT. Cheers!

With a regional it might be different. Allegiant might have rejected you, but we need bodies. If you aren't current I'm willing to bet, they'll still invite you in to interview. They might ask that you get IFR current before the interview or at least get IFR current before you start class (if offered the job). Either way, just be up-front about it. If you are overseas you might not be able to come in for a bit anyways?
