Skywest Questions

Thank you!

What would the possible change be?

Well, SFO is obviously primarily United, and United wants rid of the 700s, in favor of 175s. So there's that. The 200 flying will likely be around a while doing Brasilia hops up and down the state.

You never really know what could happen. All you can do is make a best guess and go with it. I do think, if you want the west coast, the Embraer is the way to go. If you like the Midwest go CRJ. Both are nice jets and you'll be ok either way.

Even that can be tough to say. The 175 is doing its share of Arcata, Medford, Santa Barbara, and LAX-SAN shuttle flying. SFO-FAT is a 175 now too.

Yeah, that's true, thinking the SBA stuff will go more mainline and the ERJ will start getting more and more of the stuff you're talking about, BFL, FAT, SBP.

I don't know how long it'll take, one good spike in oil or or an expensive AD, who knows. Either way, for a new guy, id say if youbwant to be out west the expansion is ERJ.

Regardless, as long as my name shows up on the schedule and the check is honored by my bank, I'll keep showing up.

Does anyone else worry about the fact that Skywest is the only regional that has contracts with all the big 3 carriers? Plus they are currently playing the arms dealer for the showdown in SEA between Alaska and Delta, constantly adding more flying for both companies. It makes me slightly nervous as a new hire, especially for my preferred base being all Alaska and knowing that we are only growing there due to Horizons issues for the time being.

I know it's a cut throat industry and Skywest has been very smart as far as what to pick up, but all this growth can lead to a quick implosion if not managed correctly in the dynamic state of today's regional airline industry.

Nope, it doesn't worry me. SkyWest management are very business savvy, and flying for 4 different carriers is diversification.

By the way, Republic flies for the big three carriers. Expressjet also flies for Delta, United, and AA (although they are owned by Skywest).

Regionals are always changing. SkyWest will change. SkyWest has a decent company culture, good track record, good performance, and it's working out so far. Also, SkyWest has never furloughed.

My recommendation is that you shouldn't be worried right now about anything except for getting through training and doing your best.

I guess I should have done my homework on those East of the river carriers... ;)

The training has been great here so far, although the instructors seem beat due to the high volume of people they are assigned to

Your concern is SO far above your (and my) pay grade! ;)

Stuff to worry about: packs, probes, transponder, flaps (or for ER7 drivers, "Clear right, taxi lights, you're right")

Is the Skywest pilot contract available for public consumption?

Never mind most of those things are automatic, worry 'bout 'em! :)

P.S. I believe the new hire's pay grade limit them to the "First Officer Activity Panel" section of the overhead.

SkyWest or Envoy better for a Chicago guy? qol is number one concern, so thinking skywest is the way to go even though the flow and $ would be nice.

I've noticed some SkyWest guys have larger than normal epaulets. The stripes seem to be exaggerated. Part of the uniform or can we buy normal looking ones?
