Skywest Questions

With a regional it might be different. Allegiant might have rejected you, but we need bodies. If you aren't current I'm willing to bet, they'll still invite you in to interview. They might ask that you get IFR current before the interview or at least get IFR current before you start class (if offered the job). Either way, just be up-front about it. If you are overseas you might not be able to come in for a bit anyways?

I'll be home soon enough. Just in another week. I'm just going to wait, fly the sim and send in the app. I've been reading up on the gouges and I have some studying to do.

I'd like the 175, but I live near ORD so really want to be based there and not commute 1800 miles. I have been told the CRJ is the best way to get based in ORD right away since all the 175's are going to get a tan on the west coast and it might take me many months to get back home. That sound accurate? I just prefer the longer legs (keep your minds out of the gutter). Have a great turkey day everyone!

New hire CRJ FO here. I am currently based in MSP and live in Seattle. Being a newbie, I was wondering if any west coast guys can give me any guidance on bases that are easier to commute to. Commutable trips, cost, crash pads etc. Having never commuted, I am not very knowledgeable on the subject. Should I focus on getting west coast based for better QOL?

A 2 hour, same time zone commute is way better than going 2 time zones and 3+ hours. As a general rule, reserve in a base you live in (or have family that lives in) is the ideal situation as a new hire. If you have to commute to reserve, pick the shortest commute. Crashpad prices are generally within 50-75$ regardless of location.

In the end, make sure you bid for a sea transfer as your first choice if you haven't already, and keep looking for the shorter commute.

My time at Skywest was spent living in base and it was a charmed life. I'm now commuting transcon to reserve for a major . I don't regret my decision, but it's definitely not as ideal as what I had.

With all that being said, things are very fluid and moving quickly industry-wide, so I don't think you'll have to worry about much of this for long.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the mail order pharmacy business. Basically they won't pay for my stuff anymore if I want to walk down the street and pick up my stuff in person anymore. And the only thing I can get mail ordered is generics, not that it really matters in theory I guess. Just sucks when you're running low and know you aren't going to be home for a couple weeks.

You will get better and managing your medicines when you get older. 8)
