More I think about it, the less and less appropriate I think it would ever be. I can't think of a scenario that would call for it, truth be told.

But discuss the ramifications of say an MEL item, or swap war stories about "you wouldn't think a broken flux capacitor would manifest this way, but I kid you not, there I was, and it turns out it's because the flux capacitor and the mr fusion share a ground lug in the E&E bay"? Absolutely.
 
Just to satisfy curiosity, what type of situation(s) would demand you to quiz your FO on system knowledge? I am having a hard time finding this appropriate for a regular line captain.
Flying with a brand new FO that is struggling. Can hardly remember call outs, thus I assume he can barely remember what he learned in ground school. Lose DC bus 1&2. Later on you lose ESSENTIAL TRU 2. Run the QRH. You gonna let him run it willy-nilly?
