Skywest Questions

Yup, we get them once a month. XJT, GoJet, SKY, Envoy, and Trans states...typically for the new hire classes.

Most people here have been closing the Envoy program...from what I've seen. I'm glad there is no strings attached to Skywest, should another opportunity arise. I'd rather have seniority than travel benefits...I can barely get any time off anyways lol.

@JustinS thanks man! How long did you sit reserve at COS or DEN...what can be expected (at least right now)?

Only been COS based since IOE. Was on reserve for a month and they loaded my schedule up. I broke gaurantee easy. After that first month off IOE, I've been a line holder ever since.

Envoy seems good on paper, but I don't know if that 2.5 yr upgrade and six year flow is reality, or marketing. I've got 1.5-2 yrs. I'll continue to watch.

I don't like it for no other reason than our planes should be flown by our pilots. Period.

My understanding is it is "our pilots"....they're just those who've aged out but are still interested in working/flying.

Up to interpretation in that regard. If they're not on the seniority list do you really consider them our pilots? Not to get all "ey took er jooobs!", but I see NO reason for anyone other than active pilots on the list to be doing any of our flying. Plus, what's the limit, or the advantage? Will these guys be paid less than us to do it? Frustrating seeing the idea being thrown around when there are countless reserves doing NOTHING.

I know if SouthernJets had 67 year olds positioning aircraft I'd be pissed because thats less work for the seniority list pilots.

THIS. There is ZERO benefit to the pilot group. And of the argument that reserves don't like repos and paint shop flights, I find that hard to believe... Might not be the best money maker, but I volunteered reserve a few weeks ago and ended up being called out for an MX rescue mission involving some repos and flying some mechanics around. It was just the kind of trip I had hoped they would give me on one of the reserve days. I personally enjoyed it... It was a nice break from the norm of flying revenue flights, and made for fun stories and meeting new people.

All allowing non seniority list pilots to fly some flights does is alleviate the company's need for more pilots... Which I think is more of a pay induced shortage than a real pilot shortage...

You wouldn't want to run into ROFCIBC moving around jets overnight for you? :D

This is absolutely true on the 175. Then you look at some CRJ bases with zero reserves and multiple unfilled open time trips.

What are the benefits?

I don't know. These things usually come with some sort of offered incentive (most recent example would be the Reflow 1-2-3 policy). Not saying what they'd be willing to offer up would be worth the trade, just pointing out that there may not be 'zero benefit to the pilots'. Until they don't get what they want and just force it on us because we don't actually have a contract o_O. #voteforalpa

Yep.

I voted no.

We get lucky every once in a while. 105:04 credit. Block 87:36 (and that's not counting if I underblock any of my next 7 flights).

Still way too much work. Then again, I'm on the understaffed jet, not the heavy.
Career revision jet!

I can understand that feeling...until you're one of those 67 year olds that still has a lot of flying left in you.

Gotta leave something for the current generation of pilots.

There is corporate, charter, basic GA, flight instruction, etc.

No honor in hovering around an airline hangar to get your occasional "fix" to relive the days of yore when there should be a seniority list pilot in that seat.

So many opportunities out there for an experienced pilot that wants to continue to fly after aging-out of 121.

Get a Citabria! :) Pull some G's, scare himself a little!
