Skywest Questions

How do they work?

Sched+. Right click on a day. Golden day. Follow the prompts/instructions. Done. (Unless there's already someone in base with a golden day on the day you want. Then you have to find a new one)

They are just a guaranteed day off. No pay. 5/year and they reset on Jan 1. Can't use them day before/of/after a holiday (the ones we get paid for...not every holiday). Have to have them in by the 1st (I believe) of the month prior. So December's have to be in by 11/1.

Perfect... thank you. ^.^

(I actually read SP3017 in the interim, but your summary is more digestible. Also wanted to be sure it didn't come out of any sort of vacation bank—I could infer that it didn't, but the wording wasn't completely clear.)

Golden days off-

Knowing for sure you have the day off before monthly bidding. It's like having a very short vacation, with the same restrictions (can't on holidays). So, a golden day off isn't exactly a "juniority eraser".

I was raised in the business too, but it's different on the other side of the flight deck door.
We are, in fact, a limited resource nowadays, now that we can't put every Tom, Dick, or Harriet with 250.1 hours into the right seat - not that this airline ever really did that anyway (thank you, C.E., thank you very much).

And @Acrofox, GOLD can actually result in your PTO banks being hit on reserve, due to how our reserve system works.

That's important and I forgot it in my post. If you have gold days, and get a reserve line with reserve days on those golden days, you WILL be "charged" 4:18 for each golden/reserve day combo, UNLESS you call CS before the 24th and work out a deal where they replace off days with reserve days to free up the golden days.

This, among a few other things, is a big reason to be in favor of having PBS build reserve lines instead of having them manually constructed. Although there are other blocking issues with going to RBDO like the flight attendants have.

I just put in my application to SkyWest last night. Does anyone have experience with them offering a Skype interview? I am currently in Southern Africa and will return to my homeland (Seattle) in December. I'm hoping to start a job as soon as possible upon my return.

Crickets...

Well, I received a call from a recruiter on Friday and I have a Skype interview scheduled for 30 November. So I guess my question is answered!

Quick question regarding getting time off. I was just asked to be a groomsman at a good friends wedding in May. He is getting married in Cancun and I have to buy the all inclusive resort before March to ensure I am in the resort the wedding will take place in. It will cost roughly 1200 for 3 days for my girlfriend and I, so I am wondering how easy or hard it is to make sure I get a 4-5 days off in a row with Skywests bidding system. I am trying not to worry too much about it yet as I am not even close to being finished with training, but it would be nice to know getting that time off is doable for someone in their first year.
i had a similar issue last yr. Bid rsv for the month and look for a rsv line that had the bulk of rotational days off on the block of days off you need for the wedding. Then use gold days to fill in what your bid didnt or couldnt get you off.

I say bid rsv vecause if you are a line holder, youll probably be the most senior rsv guy which means youll most likely get yoir first choice.

The oppisite is true if you bid a line. Who knows what youll get and you coukd end up hsing all your gold days in one week.

Its a gibe and a take scenario. Sadly for you, its more of a give scenario because of how junior you.

This worked for me and i was able to get weekends off for the wedding my first month of being a garaunteed line holder plug in houston all because i sacrificed my QOL to bif rsv. I got what i need and i even broke min garauntee. Credited like 130+ hrs thst month.

Disclaimer: I lived in base. Bidding rsv wasnt a huge deal for me commute wise.
