Skywest Questions

I've done 3 observation flights so far. The audio panel is to the right of the jump seat on the ERJ. The ships headset is apparently stashed in a drawer someplace. I just use my own set, an in ear set that travels well.

Been flying 135 for years (cargo and charter) and contemplating a run for the majors via a regional. I have always held SkyWest in high regard given the people I know there and the consistency of the operation over the years. Anyone there have some insight regarding the following:
After say 1 year on property in a west coast base, how feasible is it to:
1. Fly just the minimum each month?
2. Get into volunteer positions such as recruiting or pilot support roles? (Does recruiting offer pay/minimum credit?)
The variety of experience (as well as box checking;-) has a lot of appeal to me as current job is just flying....

Thanks!

I once opened the drawer back there to find a brand new Sennheiser with the ship's power plug, the nomenclature for which escapes me. I'm guessin' that they don't have those anymore.

Ehhhhh. This is so variable that I outright refuse to answer; the airplane, the base and the staffing equations are all fluid.

I've never seen the ability to bid down, personally (the last time I dropped a trip was 2014, if anyone cares), but I've also been (1) in perennially understaffed categories and (2) I've only bid above ~50% once in a category in my career, and it was when I couldn't afford to bid down anyway, so.

Recruiting is COBU and it is paid as such. Pilot support is a little more broad, but ProStands and CIRP are paid for training if memory serves, and then they're volunteers thereafter except for the chairs. I think.

Also if you live in Denver you can sign up to teach ground school. However good luck holding Denver as a base for a while.

Once you get up there in seniority it gets nice. 2 years tomorrow I started. Bidding 12% ORD and dropped a trip this month and under guarantee next month (but its AQP time).

Looks like DTW is exploding and everything else not so much

Soon we will be called SkyEast.

I heard we are getting more 7/900 flying out of DTW and they are trying to reduce the amount of MSP/ORD crews that are deadheading to DTW for those trips. Next month, I only saw standups out of DTW On the 7/900 for DTW pairings. The rest of the DTW 7/900 flying was being done by other domiciles.

I snuck into ORD before they cut it off to new hires but now I'm not moving. I'm 20 ish up in the list...wonder if I'll be bidding reserve in May

More like, I'll keep deadheading over there because nobody will bid it.

As someone who is finishing up the hours and considering 121 mostly due to the fact that ORD is a short drive away from the family mansion, huh??
ORD no more for the new hires?
I'll need an adult beverage if so. First Envoy shrinking the ORD base, if this happens, Air Whisky is going to be the only NH base option at the end of the year.

Things change all the time. ORD goes junior on both fleets but on the CRJ, DTW goes even more junior. We had a few months on the E175 where new hires were going to LAX. New hires on the E175 are going to ORD again. New hires on the CRJ are going to DTW now but a couple months ago they were going to DTW and ORD. The last RSR report said that ORD is understaffed but DTW must be even more understaffed because the next domicile vacancy report shows 40 openings in DTW and 0 in ORD. Right now, E175 new hires will go to ORD and CRJ may take a couple months to get ORD.
