Some 4 decades ago we are on the way to HNL. The Purser starts her customary PA announcement: "On behalf of XYZ airline and Captain so and so..." Later an older gentleman in the back rings his call button, "I trained your Captain" he proudly declares. The very sharp and spontaneous F/A whispers in his ear: "I hate to tell you Sir, but you really f@cked up!" She later brings him up to the cockpit. (Yes, we could do that in those days.) Turns out, he really was one of my old 707 IPs! Although the F/A's wise assessment still pretty much stands!
