There is a fine reason they keep telling you to check back or that it should be X date: the answers literally change every few hours, so what they tell you at 10AM could change by 5PM. Most, if not all, of the reps are working a 7AM-6PM shift because of all of this stuff that's happening. Facilities dramatically reduced hiring numbers because of A.) the economy, B.) reduced air travel, C.) decreased retirement rates across the country, and D.) the new pay bands taking up the large portion of the FAA's budget. I've been told it could potentially be FY2011 before a slot opens at my TOL'ed facility, even though one person is being promoted to supervisor from ATC and another is retiring in 5 months. I'm hoping that gives me a chance for early next year.
Take a chill pill; you're in PUBNAT6 and have parts of 5-6 groups ahead of you. They go in order of facility need (of which 25% were reduced to a need of "0" for FY2010, even after we got TOLs for them -- my facility is one of those), and then they go in order of TOL or clearance expiration date, whichever expires first. I'm technically 2nd in line out of 3 people in process for my facility, but I get moved to the front because my medical clearance expires before #1.
You know what they know when they know it. If they have an opening for you, you'll know as soon as possible. If you don't hear anything, stay frustrated; I know I am. I've been pushed back from May to June/July to August to end of August to mid-September to "we don't really know" over the past 7 months, so I know what it's like. I'm partially at peace... kind of like a person with a terminal illness and no chance of living much longer. I just want to know how much longer I have on this earth, and then I'll be at peace. Just get me to knowing my class date, and I'll be okay. I actually wonder if I'll even be excited anymore.
