Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

I didn't think about how that would affect ATC until you said this. According to Obama, it won't go into effect until FY 2011. Still, it doesn't look good for us PUBNAT8ers.

Sadly, we're in the "Waiting for FY2011" group... Though I got some encouragement looking at Yahoo's fact-checking of the speech.

OBAMA: "Starting in 2011, we are prepared to freeze government spending for three years. Spending related to our national security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will not be affected. But all other discretionary government programs will. Like any cash-strapped family, we will work within a budget to invest in what we need and sacrifice what we don't."
THE FACTS: The anticipated savings from this proposal would amount to less than 1 percent of the deficit — and that's if the president can persuade Congress to go along.
Obama is a convert to the cause of broad spending freezes. In the presidential campaign, he criticized Republican opponent John McCain for suggesting one. "The problem with a spending freeze is you're using a hatchet where you need a scalpel," he said a month before the election. Now, Obama wants domestic spending held steady in most areas where the government can control year-to-year costs. The proposal is similar to McCain's.

Quiet you.

Okay, we're making a bet right now. First one in to ZSE buys a drink for the other at that sketch Indian casino caddy corner to the Center. You in?

I think ZLA guys should do the same. I know a couple of you PUBNAT 5/6ers snuck in to a Dec. 30 date but you're dead to us. Anybody left but me? I drink rum...

Don't worry guys... Obama's spending freeze will NOT affect departments like the FAA, DOI, FDA...etc. Its only "discretionary government programs" which none of the above are.

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

I don't know about you guys, but my heart just sank hearing Obama say that he is planning on a "spending freeze" for the next 3 years for all government spending with the exception of health insurance, national security, and social security.

He's just reiterating the proposed cuts he mentioned a few days ago, although "air traffic" was mentioned specifically once by NBC News. It'd still need to be approved by Congress.

But like Rudy says, in the SOTU, he said "discretionary" spending. I'm not so sure that keeping staffing above emergency levels will be considered discretionary. The flip side to that is most facilities aren't in danger of that for the time being, and the FAA has tricks they can pull to make facilities seem better staffed than they are (like counting developmentals in a way to make them seem like CPCs).

In any case... it's too soon to do much worrying about it. If it goes through, it'll certainly alienate NATCA, who backed him in the last election. McCain still would've been a worse choice for controllers, but still.

You can have it. Keep in mind it is in the beautiful state of IN! Hard to resist I know.

Hoo boy. Well, I was born in Elkhart. Although we did get out of there when I was 2.

I've officially had my TOL for over a year now. Glad I spent 600 bucks to go to NY for the "Fast Track". My drug test expired over 6 months ago, my med/psyc expire in april. Took a redirect in sept 2009 thinking it would get me in faster (usually the case) not so much for me. Day 652 of the application process. Still getting canned emails about how no one knows anything, but I suppose its better than hearing nothing at all... EM has been great through this process, but I cant help being a little bitter towards it all.

Yeah, I was all excited after dropping $400 myself on plane tickets, hotel, and food, especially when we were told (a year ago tomorrow) that we would be going to OKC in "late June/early July". My, how times change. It feels like it's been several years since we were in NYC. My clearances expire tomorrow, so I know your pain. I can't wait to get the e-mail to go get retested, because THEN I'll know something's REALLY happening. I already have Gmail set up to "star" any messages coming from any faa.gov e-mail account and never mark it as spam, as well as apply an "FAA" tag to it-- so anytime I see "Inbox (1)" come up, my heart starts pounding until I realize it's just Costco sending me their daily advertisement. I've also had my phone sitting on my desk at work and sitting out on the table at home with the ringer turned up so that if the FAA calls, I will see it and answer it within one ring. In the same vein as my e-mail, my heart jumps when the phone rings, only to find out it's the Red Cross (I saved their number in my phone because of how often they call) begging me to donate platelets.

EM, PLEASE CALL ME SOON!

Ha Ha I hear you. I feel like once I finally get the call I won't believe it. Anyways, they say things in the economy are slowly starting to turn around. If thats the real reason we are waiting so long I hope it gets things going for all of us out here in limbo.

Who are the people that are getting these "canned emails"? Just OTS applicants?

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

You know, I was going to inquire about retaking all of my clearances before they expire just to keep up-to-date, but my HR rep said they won't let us retake anything until we have a class date...

Really? Hmm.. In January I asked my HR Rep about re-doing everything because they were expired. He said he wouldnt know his hiring numbers til mid august and he wouldnt have me retake my physical's until he knew his numbers for FY2011. That being said, I just last month got emails wanting me to redo everything....

Umm... based on the quote I am responding too... would anyone say that I may have a class date??
