**Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thread**

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

I have not been on this site in awhile, I have been distracted with other things. I got that email on Fri, which utterly confused me since I thought I was disqualified in Sept. I called today and found out that I am on a waiting list to a class date. My question is what is going on, why is it taking so long? I admit I am totally out of the loop.

NO MONEY!

No retirements
No one flying
More pay in the new contract i.e. less to go around

I'm not buying into that one, although I know some people have claimed it. It's shifting the blame to the controllers from Raytheon, who are the ones who originally underbid the training contract knowing full well that the amount wouldn't be enough. When the FAA refused to cave to Raytheon's requests for more money, big surprise -- training ground to a halt.

So.....we wait.
I've noticed fewer users than before. I am sure a few got to OKC before the meltdown, but have many people given up?

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

Well, looks like I am in the same boat as everyone here in this thread. Got my TOL back in August, waiting for a class date. I was initially told this spring, but from the looks of it, I guess not. I am looking at the Olathe, KS center so hopefully they are still hiring...soon this whole process will have taken more than 2 years.

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

Ditto. Except I'm done with aviation, and intently trying to transition into another industry. My (aviation) degree is worthless. I've looked for a job in that field for almost a year now, with no success. It's all about who you know. I'm looking to put my other skills to good use.

It's amazing how the government can spend money on pork-barrel earmarks, but can't spend it to keep air traffic flowing safely and efficiently.

You're giving up on a hard-hit industry during an economy crash after only a year?

Nothing personal, man -- honest, I've enjoyed getting to know you since you've been here -- but if you say you haven't been able to get any job in aviation for a year, then you haven't been trying. Unless you're unwilling to move, train, or accept a standard starting salary, jobs are everywhere. Sign up for an RSS feed on AviationEmployment or Climbto350; there are jobs everywhere. Airlines are posting new stuff up on their Career sites on a weekly basis, FBOs are still taking people on... it's tough as usual to be a pilot, and there's a wait for ATC, but if you're mobile, willing to take on other roles, and are realistic about zero-experience wages, you can get hired within two months. Shoot, jobs are even offered here on JC from time to time.

Aviation's always been a demanding industry to get in to. Knowing people helps, but you've got to realize that everybody started somewhere; the vast majority of people in any aviation job weren't born into it, they worked hard for it... just like the rest of the real world.

Hey, soon as you get it, I want your current job. Something to hold us off till October, right?

I have A feeling most of us will be waiting a lot longer than October to start...

Really man? Giving up after only a year? I have been at this for 2 years now and I am not giving up until they tell me NO. I desperately want this job, and I have for a really long time before this. Keep your head up and just maintain, it's hard for everyone right now.

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

Waiting til October... or later....

Here's what I plan to do in that time.

Currently I'm delivering Pizza. I have an interview tomorrow to be a car salesman. And I've been considering joining Air National Guard.. but I think that will interfere with ATC if and when I get hired. I live at my moms house right now and don't have the money to move out. I've thought about going back to school, applied for financial aid, I have a year left on my degree.. so we'll see. Id quit school at the drop of a hat if I had a class date though... ugh.. My life is in a total stall until ATC. Its been about 2 years and as of right now I wish I didn't have it as a carrot dangling in front of me.. I feel like a stupid Donkey who continues to try to lap it up and never gets it. Oh well... At least the pizza tastes good.... No but in all seriousness....

I'd recommend to anyone who is like me and has to wait, use this year as an oppertunity to do a ton of crap you always wanted to do. Once ATC starts life will be so busy it might start to pass you buy.... Thats my plan anyways... just gonna enjoy the time off from the Grind of a full time ATC job and make the most of it. Whether it be road trips to Vegas, or Catching some Baseball games or a trip to Hawaii.. who knows... but I got 10 months at least until my freedom from hard work is gone... Lets make 2010 the best year of our lives!

Quiet you.

Okay, we're making a bet right now. First one in to ZSE buys a drink for the other at that sketch Indian casino caddy corner to the Center. You in?

That's what I'm talking about baby. I've gotten to squeeze in stuff I'd never be able to do if I were tied down to a traditional job, let alone ATC. I'm not saying that I wouldn't start on the drop of a dime if I got a call asking if I could be in Oklahoma City tomorrow, but if I've got the time off in the meantime, I'm going to try to use it wisely instead of simmering over something I can't control.

Course, some people wouldn't think of a month of living in airports as a good time, but, you know. Different strokes.

Pretty much what I have been doing. Got married, bought a house, bought a motorcycle and a new car, now just enjoying not being all of that busy. I really want to get into class now though....towards the end of last year I was told to expect a spring time class date, now it seems even that will not happen. Oh well, time to hit the road on two wheels for a while!

I don't know about you guys, but my heart just sank hearing Obama say that he is planning on a "spending freeze" for the next 3 years for all government spending with the exception of health insurance, national security, and social security.

You caught that, too, eh? My first thought was, "AFTER JANUARY, PLEASE." That is, if I get a class date before January.

I didn't think about how that would affect ATC until you said this. According to Obama, it won't go into effect until FY 2011. Still, it doesn't look good for us PUBNAT8ers.
