Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

Thanks for your thoughts. Did EM give you any reassurance that your TOL will never expire? She did tell me that no one can cut in front of me and that my TOL never expires, but it makes you wonder how long they keep your file sitting in a folder until finally they just bring someone fresh from the next PUBNAT along instead b/c your paperwork is so old. Am I just paranoid? :insane:

I'd say you're paranoid. :)

However, I do sometimes wonder if I'll ever get through. Sure, I've only been waiting for a class date with clearances done for 7 months, but it's also put everything on hold. We moved about 1/3 of our stuff to my wife's parents' house two months ago, including our couch and dining room furniture, leaving our apartment somewhat bare; I was denied a promotion and chance to work on a big project at work because I am no longer considered a "long term" employee; and we can't make any big decisions until I get a class date, which we were originally told would be in late June.

We're set and in line for the position, and there's no one in later PUBNATs that can just float in front of us because of our TOL and time of clearances. TOL is the ultimate decider on your position in line, but if someone from the same PUBNAT that's a spot behind you had their medical clearance come back before you, they get to bump in front of you -- at least until both his and your clearances expire.

Here's the exact cut and paste (with names changed to protect the innocent) from EM's assistant. I sent her assistant an e-mail because I hadn't heard back from EM herself when asking the same question. As a reference, I sent EM the initial e-mail November 9th. I'm starting to think this is a form response sent to us, primarily because of the difference in font.
We have received both of your clearances and as soon as we have a class date for you we will contact you. I don't actually do the scheduling for classes. EM is your HR specialist that will be scheduling you for a class start date. This could take some time. When we get results back from security and medical then you go on a list in order of when you received your tentative offer letter and when your clearances were completed. Your class date also depends on facility needs and avaibility at the Academy. Please be patient with this process.

The second font is the form letter. I think she added the first part since she said that they have your cleances, but the form letter says "When we get your results back".

I'm getting pretty sick of "Please be patient with the process."

1. HE IS BEING PATIENT! You told him he would have a class date 6 months ago! Touching base every few months is hardly being impatient.

2. What process!? Nothing is happening!

I feel Your pain.

My life has been put on hold for almost 2 years now. But mostly since the spring when all my clearances were passed. I can't move, I can't really look for a long term job, I am stuck in my dead end job and my lame existence until I get a class date....

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

Same spot here guys. I got laid off when they did the background check and my boss found out I was leaving anyway. That was February. I've been job hunting since and have gone near broke in the process. I've finally got a job now but at about half of what I was making. Part of me is satisfied knowing it is a sacrifice and will all be worth it. Part of me though is scared it might never happen at this rate and I'll have given up a great job and wasted 2 years of my life for nothing. Just waiting and waiting.

Has anyone been able to get ahold of EM lately? I've sent emails that went with no response. I've left messages. Today I called, and her voicemail says, "It is November 12th and I am unexpectedly out of the office. I don't know when I'll be back." I'm either being ignored on all fronts or she hasn't been at work in a while. Since I've already had one HR person quit and delay me, I am a bit worried. Anyone been in contact with her?

I didn't even get a response from her from an e-mail I sent on 11/10. I know she was off for Veteran's Day, and I haven't heard from her since then. When I e-mailed her assistant, her assistant responded to me, but she just told me that EM was my rep and would notify me when they had a class date for me. I already knew that; I just wanted a status update.

I hear ya Jerms... I sent EM an email on the 6th also asking for an update, or if possibly anything had changed. Still no response. :(

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

I have sent EM two emails in the last month with no response...same deal, just asking for a status update since my facility is telling me a completely different story than she is in terms or when they want/need me. Maybe she is busy working on FOL's. hahahahaha.

BAHAHAHAHA!

Man, I wish that was the case -- give me something to be REALLY thankful for this Thanksgiving! Unfortunately, from what she told me on the phone in October (I talked to her for over an hour to get a handle on the process), regardless of the facility's staffing situation, the facility cannot get a new hire trainee sent to OKC until the ATO asks for it. They determine the ultimate staffing levels, so even if your facility has people working 60 hour weeks, unless the ATO says, "Send one", you're screwed.

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

It's good(kind of) to hear other people are in the same boat. Since this process started 18 months ago for me it has been constant agony. I've moved to a city I can't stand to be close to work and now I'm stuck until something happens. Every time I go to work I think about quitting at least every 30 minutes. Oh well, and least I have a job and an offer. EM must have been out of the office most of this time. It's not like her to not answer emails in my experience. Usually, my emails have been returned within 30 minutes. I hope they didn't play switcharoo again because EM has been great.

Yeah she normally responds right away. She must have been out a lot this month. I've kinda been hoping that the longer it takes the better the news will be when I finally get a response... heres hoping.

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

I normally dont post but since i was here i decided to share what i know. I am currently at the academy and about to PV. Was talking to our teacher the other day and he said and this is not speculation that the FAA cut 1/3 of all classes for 2010 and 2011. Right now the academy runs 48 people in each class. What that means is its 2 classes of 24 in tower, center, and tracon. My teacher gets his next class Jan 6th and it will only have 30 people in it. My teacher said they are cutting the class sizes until 2012. So not only have they cut classes but also class sizes. Also i wouldnt beleive anything about certain states not hiring. Since ive been here i have met at least two people going to every state. I seen on these sites that its hard for people to get states like florida and Cali and atlanta and boston. Its 3 people in my class going to boston tracon. 6 going to SOcal 2 going to atl our sister class has people going to LA, Guam PCT, OH, TN MN and my cousin is here in a tower class and people in his class are going to alot of places that are so clalled hard to get. By the way while you are at the academy once you move from the class room to the sim the teachers put the next class roster up on the door with peoples names and where they are going. So i see whos going to be the next people in class and they are still sending people to states that i have seen on this site that they say the manager said they would not haVE people until 2011. So if you want a certain state or facility they are still hiring and its alot of CTI and VRA people here. So if you are off the streets it might be awhile but out of the 48 people in my class its only 15 people that are off the streets the rest are VRA or CTI. GOOD LUCK and KEEP HOPE ALIVE

Re: **Official "Not Until Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2010)" Thre

EM said the numbers can (and sometimes do) change daily, and at that point, it's up to the ATO to decide when someone can go to the facility. For instance, the ATO will be notified if CMH has an opening that could be filled, at which point they have to determine if the facility actually needs someone to fill that slot immediately, or if the facility even has the budget to bring in someone else for this fiscal year. If so, they'll notify HR to send someone to CMH, and as long as you're the first in line, you'll get your phone call. If they decide not to send someone, they'll try to put you in the budget for FY2011 -- but again, that becomes based on facility need.

I, unfortunately, could foresee not getting a class date, even in FY2011, due to the small size of the facility to which I am assigned.

You are definitely right about what EM said. Just got a call about 20 minutes ago for a possible December 30th class date. I asked which facility this would be for (a few weeks ago they said MLU wasn't taking anyone) and it's still my original TOL. They said there was recently an adjustment made to one of their lists and the facility is in a crunch for people.

They said they'll be calling back in a little while to confirm that I have this date... fingers crossed!

Maybe that means there is hope for the rest of us. Congrats on the "possible" class date.

(a few weeks ago they said MLU wasn't taking anyone) ... [now] the facility is in a crunch for people.

I love it. They go from "no one 'til October" to "we need people NOW!!" in a heartbeat.

Kinda like..."best forward speed to the marker, then slow to your final approach speed."

Good luck with the class date.

So EM actually called you? If so, you're the first person in this forum that has gotten any form of contact whatsoever from her in the last month, so congrats on that! Oh, and congrats on the class date; I wish I was going with you, because I'd love nothing more than to talk into work and give my notice.
