Northwest Overshoot / Cert Action....

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

I remember those days too.

(as the FA beverage cart comes around)

"Would you like a drink, cocktail sir?"

"I'll have whatever mixed drink the flight deck is having......"

lol

I actually said I wanted what the pilot was having about a week after it, but the pilot had just gotten a coffee (now mine did get bailey's in it!) ;)

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

I don't know if they are lying or not, but if they are, they definetly just torpedoed themselves. Even if criminal charges aren't pressed I think the "...of good moral character." clause of the ATP just got blown out of the water. I've had some good debates in airplanes before but I've never forgotten where I was.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

If they were asleep I'm sure the FAA/ALPA will bill examining their schedule that day. Hopefully it would only further bolster our position that rest requirements need reform.

It does seem that they're sticking to their guns that they weren't asleep. Sleeping has such a bad stigma attached to it in the cockpit, and rightfully so if both are doing so. But if it was something else such as a tense conversation, what can be said about their Situational Awareness?

Bolstering what?

The pilots said they were not sleeping, if they were sleeping they will be liars & the public will want their heads.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

I'm still wondering why or if they even spoke more than one syllable to the media. Hasn't this industry learned what that can and will do. There are two sides to every news story. There's the pilot's side then there's the media's side. Which one does the general public hear more frequently? This sucks for the entire industry, not just NWA/DAL.

They have given limited statements.

While there is an investigation going on, it would be wise to remain quiet....

It is interesting that the only press from the pilots is coming from the F/O.

Its his way of having the last word in the argument ;)
I would still love to hear what the debate was about. I was just thinking how possible this would be as I was having a heated debate with my old lady about the proper use of baby powder while driving and completely over shot my freeway exit by a few miles. :sarcasm:

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

This story was playing on CNN at SFO ALL day yesterday and freaking out passengers who then got on their phones and loudly speculated to people what they think happened. One guy said "They missed the airport by 600 miles!". Yeah...why does the media hate pilots so much?

Because they don't want to accept that it's a lot more than "mashin' the Minneapolis button!" :)

Fo sho. Seriously, do you think there's any profession that the media sucks at reporting about more than flying? Sure pretty much every network talks out of their ass, but whenever its about pilots or a plane crash the stuff they say is hilarious at best.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

I look at how poorly they handled the financial crisis and aviation issues and figure they're handling everything else the same.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

If they weren't sleeping, and they weren't arguing...and they are acting so suspicious...what WERE they doing...or WHO were they doing? This sounds really fishy.

I'd say it's true for pretty much everything, the only difference is I don't know when they're talking out of their ass when it's a subject I have no clue about.

I agree with you there. It's scary to read some of the aviation "technical" information in USA today. It gets to the point where it makes me wonder what other types of information are that accurate.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

I really want to believe the pilots on this but the cards are quickly being stacked taller and taller against them.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

How do they explain the fact that they flew 1 hour and 20 minutes without any radio traffic at all? I mean, last time I checked they had flight durations and estimated time of arrivals for flights...something smells funny.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Like someone previously mentioned, I too will almost always tend to side by the pilots whenever something comes out in the media. After watching some video about this and reading an article or two, it just sounds really ridiculous and fishy. There is SOMETHING that is being kept from the general public, and I think if and when it comes out these pilots will be history...just me though...could be wrong.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Awesome....

I was workin a flight today and never received a freq change from MEM center.

Once we figured it out and were trying to find a new freq dispatch sent us a message with a freq. When we checked in our transponder was showing something not even close to what we had in there when we left the mothership. Both of us are 100% certain we didn't touch it.

Nothing like being asked by center if we are "receiving any unlawful interference".

We weren't in the wrong, but I'm sure they were thinking "I bet they're involved in a spirited debate about company policy" :insane:
