Northwest Overshoot / Cert Action....

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

I agree with you there. It's scary to read some of the aviation "technical" information in USA today. It gets to the point where it makes me wonder what other types of information are that accurate.
Yeah that's the scary part, TV news is probably the only way at least 80% of people get their news, and seeing the very very wrong information they dish out about aviation, I wonder what else they've misled the general public to believe.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

BUT the pilots may have elected to tell a lie and that is not an error. That is a violation, a willful decision. Such actions have consequence.
Part of a 'just culture' is abiding by the policy/procedures and being a professional.

This one is just ugly and because of the implausibility of the explanation, it is not going to end pretty.

Absolutely, they have elected to tell a lie about what happened.

I was referring to finding out exactly what happened to cause them to be out of contact.

Lying about what happened unprofessional, unsafe, and unacceptable. They deserve whatever punishment they get for not being forthright about what happened.

But to the original cause, I still think we need to know exactly what went on.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

An FE onboard would've put this whole situation to rest (no pun intended) :)

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Without placing blame, I wonder what the Flight Attendants were doing?

I saw an "expert" pose the same question this morning. Granted they have scheduled arrival times, but I doubt FA's are good at Dead Reckoning. What should a flight attendant do here? I'm asking honestly cause I think I'm missing something.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Good lord, all I need is a bunch of cabin call chimes when we're on an extended double-downwind in JFK.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

How dare you overfly dispatch's estimate on a 9 hour flight by 1%. Shame on you skipper dough. They are going to have to wait an extra 6 minutes to read the latest paparazzi reports in the enquirer. Their lives are ruined forever all because of you.

Exactly.

Like I said earlier, I've been going into ORD and overflew almost all the way across Lake Michigan before getting turned & vectored back. There was NOTHING wrong, it was just sequencing & arrivals. No big deal.

Chances are, not a lot of time passed between when the F/As were roughly expecting to "get there". From what I hear, the F/As DID call up, and were the ones who finally got the guys' attention.

I hear so much of, "F/As are just there to serve pax drinks", "F/As should be hot", "Who cares about F/As, as long as they're hot", and now we have pilots wondering why the F/As weren't navigating?

I'm not going to point fingers at the F/As here... from what I've heard they haven't done anything wrong.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Shoot, when we're on the PHLBO into EWR and get vectored to the SHAFF because of all the traffic, we can be up there quite a while. No wonder the AITS says "Aircraft may exit the Class B Airspace". :-)

It would just be another guy fast asleep to the other two.

I once looked down from the top bunk of the 141 flight deck and saw the FE face first in his -1 with drool running off the page. OK...more than once.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

The NTSB/FAA/FBI will get to the bottom of this... They will be sooooo screwed if they are caught for lying to federal investigators in addition to everything else....

Just ask Martha Stewart.

Narrowbody guys get called all the time! Come back, Doug!

I was going to leave you a note on my three hour sit but I dozed off... Oh well. Found FLL OK though.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Fo sho. Seriously, do you think there's any profession that the media sucks at reporting about more than flying? Sure pretty much every network talks out of their ass, but whenever its about pilots or a plane crash the stuff they say is hilarious at best.

Medicine... "30-40k for a surgeon to amputate a foot." Doubtful he'd even make $800.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

So, according to the FO (who should most definitely NOT be speaking to the media!) they weren't sleeping and weren't involved in a heated discussion about company policies. What the hell is behind door #3? Perusing the pages of Penthouse/Hustler? Joining the Mile High Club? :dunno: :insane:
