Northwest Overshoot / Cert Action....

Re: Northwest Overshoot Pilots Lose Ticket

Good point. How could these pilots not differentiate the runway lights from the taxiway lights? These incidents sure are tarnishing DAL image which is kinda sad d/t there's plenty of competent pilots who fly for them.
Oh, I think it'll take more than that to hurt SouthernJets' image. They're fine. :)

Re: Northwest Overshoot Pilots Lose Ticket

Thanks Jim, I can see how someone would instantly throw out the "you don't know what you're talking about" card. It's okay :)

Ultimately, it doesn't really matter what any of us here think of either of those crews' actions... it's up to the FAA to decide any certificate action.

Nigel, Welcome to JC....Let me allow you a second to open your mouth and change feet.......And I mean that in the nicest way.

1st, she just happens to be involved with a Delta CA/FO depending on the timing.

Involved with. Is that what we're calling it these days? :)

And some people like the taste of shoe leather. Let 'em munch on it.

Yeah, he's been F/O again since June. Who knows how much longer it'll be til a CA seat again, have to wait & see how things shake out with SOC. His 10 year company anniversary was last week... What's really scary is that Nov 6th would have been my 14th anniversary with Eagle if I'd stayed. Wow.

Re: Northwest Overshoot Pilots Lose Ticket

Wow you just proved you are only a PPL, and really dont understand what is going on. The Taxiway landing was every bit as bad if not worse. The so called medical emergancy has been moved to the cabin, off the flightdeck, so no longer a concern for distraction on the Flightdeck. And a medical emergancy is never an excuse to land on a taxiway, the needs of one do not outweight the safety of the other 200+, and if you cannot see that or make that tough call someday stay in a piper please. All it would have taken was 1 single 737 holding short on that taxiway and we would be discussing the 2nd greatest aviation disaster since tenneriffe. Do you honestly not see that....wow

Wow you just proved you know very little about 121 flying. The crew had been up for over 12 hours and got a sidestep inside the FAF to an unlit runway with no ILS. I could see myself making the same mistake.

The runway they where sidestepping too and taxiway didn't have the light on. The ILS to the runway was also not on.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Get people up and down safely for 30000 hours, get canned on your 'first' mistake that hurt no one.

You can't judge the risk of an event by the outcome of a single event. My uncle survived the Battle of Okinawa, did that make it "safe"? Lots of units took over 100% casualties (when including replacements), my uncle was just lucky. Or blessed.

Like it or not, aviation is a world where you first mistake is often your last mistake. These guys should be happy that all their families have to worry about is them loosing the certificates and jobs. It very easily could have ended a whole lot worse for many, many people.

if that wasn't enough, you may want to check her credentials......

F/A......
F/A Training

I don't know your background, but considering hers, I am quite sure she is well versed in medical emergencies on a/c and the issue they raise.

Agreed, thanks. I took her post, the one I was responding to as her saying the taxiway landing was not a bad thing because it wasnt intentional, (and that with the medical emergancy might even have been acceptable, which I strongly disagree with), so thats why I responded so, just a debate, not a personal slam at her. If I came across too strong, than sorry. As far as my background, I am a furloughed 121 FO. I have my info posted on the site, just not my signature line. Thanks for the welcome and I am a long time lurker brand new contributer, hoping my military brusqueness doesnt offend the masses...
