New NTSB Chairman's actions

So the NTSB says a "summer intern" confirmed the crew name hoax to the media? YGBSM...what a circus.

Not surprised considering Hersman's changing communications philosophy at the NTSB. When they're more focused on tweeting photos...the facts don't necessarily hold as much weight as they once did.

Amen. Agree.

I can understand release of information, even to an extent that is more than has been in the past, if only due to the change in media over the past decade even. But the extent we're seeing here is just ridiculous, as you, Seggy, and I have stated in a number of posts.

Yes.

And at the end of the day, this should be about a discovering the causal factors which lead to the accident, not a flipping reality television show.

Seems to me that the NTSB Chairman may get an object lesson in why information has not been handled the way she is doing it in the entire history of aircraft mishap investigation.

And the reason is NOT that social media did not exist then.

She stepped over the line.
I know. I said she stepped over the line the first day she released the information from the CVR and FDR. It was completely uncalled for. That's why the NTSB's first report is called the PRELIMINARY report, followed by the public hearing. These happen within 1-3 months of a crash. The final report comes much later, about 1-2 years later. Apparently she couldn't wait. I've already posted a link for her contributing factors, her NTSB term ends this year, Norman Mineta Sec DOT job opens up, and her private lobbying efforts for the Sec DOT job weren't working.

Exactly! You'd think one would learn from their predecessor. Then again, the predecessors weren't lobbying for a Sec DOT job either.

Ahh, Norm Mineta hasn't been the Secretary of Transportation since 2006

Of course.TASan Jose is named after him, SFO be the Deborah Hersman international airport soon? And I'm still confused. I thought you, and others, were actually happy and supportive of day 1 releases from CVR and FDR, which I thought was complete BS for her to do so. Careless, no integrity, jumping the gun kinda move. It seems you were supportive but only to a certain point. The day 1 release was pretty damning, I'm just curious what was it that drove you to not like her releases? What in particular drove you over?

For me it was the 1st day release of data points of CVR and FDR.

Whoah whoah there Sparky.

I haven't seen anything "damning" yet.

Have you at least taken an aviation safety course?

I can't imagine any investigation lesson starting without "Beware of the "A Ha!" moment".

I'm sure they touched on it at jetU

Of course. My point was the general attitude on the first day of the release was taken as positive by others here. This is in reference to the CVR and FDR data point release to the media saying the speed was way low and yhe stick shaker went off, with a go around call that was too late. But on day 2,3,4 of release of info by the Chairman, you said it was crossing a line and no longer the same thing as it was on day 1. My question is, what was that defining stage of change? At point did the NTSB info release cross the line for you?

Sorry for autocorrect, I was using an iPhone.
